Suspected cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) shot dead a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in Sarkheda village under the Aundhi Police Station area in in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki District of Chhattisgarh on October 20, reports abplive.com. District Superintendent of Police (SP) Ratna Singh said that Birju Taram (60) was shot dead by unknown assailants at around 7.30 p.m. [IST] when Birju was outside his house. When asked about the possible role of Maoists in the incident, she said that it is too early to reach any conclusion and that an investigation is going on in all possible aspects. According to eyewitnesses, Taram was out for a walk when two-three people (suspected Maoists) reached there and opened fire on him, due to which he died on the spot. Mohla-Manpur is one of the twenty constituencies where voting will be held in the first phase on November 7.
