The Swiss Federal Court has acquitted 12 people of terror financing charges while ruling Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) to be a non-criminal organization on December 3, reports Colombo Page. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) had charged 12 people of the Swiss Penal Code by raising funds for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE) between 1999 and 2009 and financially supporting the World Tamil Coordinating Committee (WTCC). In June 2018, the Federal Criminal Court had stated that there was not sufficient proof to indict LTTE as a criminal organization. In the present verdict also, the Federal Court upheld the previous ruling that LTTE cannot be regarded as a criminal organization at the time of the fundraising as the group’s primary objective was to be recognized as an independent ethnic community.
