A senior Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) leader, identified as Aghanu Ganjhu, a ‘sub-zonal commander’ of CPI-Maoist, carrying a total bounty of INR 800,000, was arrested from the Betar Forest area under Chandwa Police Station limits in Latehar District of Jharkhand on October 28, reports The Print. Aghanu, also wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), was wanted in 78 cases registered in 15 Police Stations in Latehar, Gumla, Lohardaga, and Ranchi districts. He was the prime accused in the 2019 attack on a Police team at Lukaiyan Mode in the Chandwa Police Station area of the district. Superintendent of Police (SP) Anjani Anjan said Aghanu was considered the right hand of CPI-Maoist’s ‘regional head’ Ravindra Ganjhu. “The Maoists suffered a major setback with Aghanu’s arrest, and after this, only five-six extremists remain in Ravindra Ganjhu’s squad,” the SP said.
