According to police sources, four tribal terrorist outfits of Manipur and one of Myanmar have recently formed an umbrella organisation to launch a united fight against Naga and Meitei terrorists in Manipur. The newly formed Indigenous People’s Revolutionary Alliance (IPRA) consists of Zomi Revolutionary Organisation (ZRO), Kuki National Front (KNF-P), Kuki National Front (KNF-MC), Hmar People’s Convention – Democratic (HPC-D) and Myanmar’s Kuki National Army (KNA). ZRO President Thanlianpau is the chairman of IPRA, while the former General Secretary of KNF-P and KNA’s ‘army chief’ Vipin Haokip are the Vice chairman and General Secretary of the outfit.

The External Affairs Secretary of the outfit, Y Guni, in a press statement issued recently alleged that the authorities of the catholic schools in Manipur were trying to mislead the public and smear the image of the outfit. He added that the outfit was not an organisation that was based on any religion.

The cease-fire was extended by the Union Government to cover all Naga-inhabited areas in India's North-east on June 14. There were some sporadic incidents of violence which marked the first day of the 66-hour Manipur bandh called by various social organizations in the State. A delegation of 24 State legislators submitted a memorandum to the State governor, Ved Marwah, criticizing the extension. These organisations were participating in a Naga convention in Manipur’s Senapati district. They also held that the Meitei and other communities should interact with the Naga people by visiting their areas and urged them to make an attempt to understand the ‘history and struggle’ of the Nagas so as to usher in peace in the Naga areas in Manipur.
