While one attack was carried out at an unspecified place between Phairengkot and Hrengkot village, the other one occurred at Molcham. According to The Hindu, people of two villages in Manipur will be issued licensed guns to protect themselves against the militants. The Cabinet is reported to have taken a decision to this effect on May 2-night. Bolt-action rifles will be issued to 200 villagers of Heirok in the Thoubal district and 100 villagers of Chajing in the Imphal West district. A Government spokesman said that on the lines of Jammu and Kashmir, Special Police Officers (SPOs) would be appointed. They would be issued .303 rifles and motorbikes for patrol duty. Each SPO would be paid a remuneration of INR 3,000 a month. The proposal for issuing licensed guns had been approved by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

Max, mentioned that its aims at restoring peaceful co-existence amongst the people living in both hills and valley and to safeguard territorial integrity and sovereignty of Manipur. He however added that the new splinter group had no enmity with the ‘revolutionary movements’ waged by the NSCN-IM, National Socialist Council of Nagalnd-Khapalng (NSCN-K) and Naga National Council (NNC). On May 13, the Imphal West district magistrate gave the order for detention of MAFYF president Sapamcha Kangleipal along with two PREPAK cadres, Salam Iboyaima Meitei alias Boyai alias Akash alias Sushil alias G Akash Sharma alias G Sushil Sharma and Wahengbam Nanao Singh alias Terenam alias Raghu alias Sana. Kangleipal was arrested by the Lamlai police in the Imphal East district on May 7 on the charge of making seditious statements against the state government. Kangleipal was also charged of working as self style ‘finance secretary’ of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) under the name of Sanasaba Leishemba alias Sss. According to police sources, he was an active cadre of the KCP. He made the seditious remarks on the behest of the outfit. However, he got anticipatory bail in the case. Similarly, the detention order of two more PREPAK cadres, Ningthoujam Rajendro Singh and Thokchom Maipaksana Singh, was issued on May 20.

Tayep Ali, from the militants’ captivity when they neutralised a major hideout of the group after a brief encounter at Wakhurok under Patsoi Police station on May 26, reports Imphal Free Press. While 16 other militants managed to escape, one 9-mm pistol, camouflage uniforms, jungle boots, hats, caps, utensils, and gun pouches were recovered from the hideout. Two women sympathisers, identified as Sanjenbam Indira and her younger sister Pratima, were also arrested while they were sharing information with the escaped cadres of the outfit. The report added that Tayep was abducted by the KCP militants on May 22 and was later tortured for allegedly smuggling drugs. He was asked to pay INR 10 00000 for his release and later the leaders of the outfit took INR 3 00000 from his wife in the Senapati district on May 24.
