The alleged main conspirator, Wasim Akram Malik, has been described by the NIA as an “avid Internet user” and a “leaderless jihadi” and that he “conspired and executed this action in conspiracy with HM terrorists and other outfits.” Wasim was allegedly inspired by books and texts on slain al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden and the Taliban leader Mullah Omar he read on the Internet. According to NIA statement, “Wasim had also read a lot about Ayman al-Zawahiri, an Egyptian doctor and current leader of the al-Qaeda. Being a doctor himself, Wasim identified with him and eulogised his contribution towards jihad. Jihad, he believed, was a means of revolution, which, if done with dedication, shall definitely bring about a change in the lives of the Kashmiri population”.

Abu Bilal, one of the two Pakistani bombers who had planted IED outside the Delhi High Court last September, is suspected to be none other than the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operative Ghulam Sarwar, whose name had first figured in an attack on an Army Major General last year. The Union Government on March 28 stayed hanging of Balwant Singh Rajoana, a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist facing death sentence for the assassination of then Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh on August 31, 1995, reports Times of India. Sources in the government said that the hanging, which was scheduled to be carried out on March 31, has been stayed following a petition filed by SGPC, the Sikh religious body. The sources said the decision to keep the hanging in abeyance was taken since a petition was filed in line with the guidelines followed in such cases. Rajoana was awarded death sentence by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court July 2007 along with another terrorist, Jagtar Singh Hawara, in the Beant Singh assassination case. The Punjab and Haryana high court had October 2010 upheld the death sentence for Rajoana but changed the capital punishment given to Hawara to life imprisonment. Rajoana had refused to challenge the death sentence awarded to him.
