four People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) cadres, including a woman, were arrested from Bodomada, 20 kilometres from the District headquarters under Bano Police Station area in Simdega District on April 4, reports The Telegraph. The woman has been identified as Poonam Topno (21) while the three others are Albins Topno (23), Sukhram Topno (19) and Jeevan Soren (19). As many as 25 rounds of ammunition used in Indian Small Arms System (INSAS) assault rifles, a mobile phone and pamphlets with PLFI messages were recovered. PLFI is a splinter group of the CPI-Maoist.

A Sub-Inspector (SI) and a Policeman were killed in a gunfight with the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), in Simdega District late on April 8, reports Hindustan Times. Bano Police Station in-charge Vidhyapati Singh and his team of four guards stormed a house in Mahabuang village in Bano block in the night after they were alerted about the presence of PLFI ‘second-in-command’ Guddu Gope, Police said. As the Security Forces (SFs) came face to face with the rebel ‘commander’, Singh asked him to surrender but Gope opened fire with an AK-47, injuring Singh and District Constabulary trooper Raju Biruli. Gope managed to flee under the cover of darkness but a gunfight broke out between his men and the SFs.

A team of District Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) arrested three Communist Party of IndiaMaoist (CPIMaoist) cadres in Dhanbad District on April 10, reports The Times of India. According to the Police, Arjun Sao, Ramji Sao and Ahmad Ansari were wanted for allegedly murdering three villagers at Ramaitand village under Bhelwaghati Police Station of Giridih District on February 12. Security personnel also recovered 1,300 live cartridges, four Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs), Maoists' uniform, gas cylinders and Maoist literature, apart from other logistics and daily use articles from the spots.

Security Forces (SFs) arrested Gurua Munda (25), a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre and right hand man of ‘area commander’ Maharaj Pramanik, from Harbagadh village under Tamar Police Station in Ranchi District on April 10, reports The Telegraph. Munda had joined CPI-Maoist in 2014 and was wanted by Police in at least 10 cases, including five murders. He was involved in the murder of Ram Singh Munda and Jagran Manjhi (Tamar), Mohan Singh Munda and Jitendra Singh Munda (Kuchai) and Amit Karmakar at Palna Dam in 2014 and 2015. Gurua revealed that Maharaj Pramanik, Amit Munda, Pradeep Swansi and Duryodhana are some of the top Maoist operatives who are trying to regroup in the area.

The Central Government of India (GoI) has informed, that Chhattisgarh is one of the eight States which has requested the Union Home Ministry (MHA) for waiving off cost of charges towards deployment of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPFs) in the State, reports The Pioneer on April 12. As many as 259 battalions of CAPF were deployed in Chhattisgarh’s Left Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected regions as on 2015-16. The deployment in other States was as follows- Andhra Pradesh (16), Telangana (12), Bihar (57), Jharkhand (144), Madhya Pradesh (eight), Maharashtra (34), Odisha (102), Uttar Pradesh (six), and West Bengal (53). A total of 691 battalions of CAPF were deployed across the country in LWE areas as on 2015-16, Officials stated. A total of 106 Districts in the States are considered as LWE-affected. Of these, Bihar has maximum 22 Districts, followed by Jharkhand (21), Odisha (19), Chhattisgarh (16), Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, - both eight each, West Bengal and Maharashtra, - both four each, Uttar Pradesh- three and Madhya Pradesh, one.
