A senior ‘commander’ of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Ashiqullah Mehsud along with two other militants, was killed in the armed clash of two groups of TTP in Mir Ali area of North Waziristan Agency in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on June 5, reports The News. The sources said that Ashiqullah was sitting with some members of the TTP when he was assaulted by the unidentified assailants who escaped in a car after firing. Mehsud was considered the master trainer of suicide bombing after Qari Hussain Mehsud who was the top expert and the inventor of suicide blasts.

Police arrested a militant, who was trying to enter Bannu District in the guise of an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) in Bannu Town (Bannu District) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on June 6, reports The News. District Police Officer (DPO) Abdur Rasheed Khan said that acting on a tip-off the Police party started searching the vehicles heading to Bannu District from North Waziristan Agency of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). Police stopped one of the vehicles (KB-7691) and after thorough search recovered two American guns, two repeater guns, two hand-grenades, several pistols, hundreds of cartridges and three kilograms of hashish. The Police arrested one Naseerullah, who was travelling along with the IDPs, the DPO said, adding, the arms were being shifted to either Karachi or Punjab.

Meanwhile, Hafiz Gul Bahadur group of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in NWA on June 9 extended cease-fire till June 20, 2014 reports Dawn. Following massive airstrikes by Pakistani jet fighters that killed at least 60 militants in NWA in May, TTP commanders met to reconsider a non-aggression treaty with the Government. The TTP group later warned the tribesmen to flee the area by June 10 and also warned to take up arms against the Pakistani SFs. The statement came days after tribal elders from NWA were asked by Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi and Corps Commander Peshawar Lieutenant General Khalid Rabbani to oust foreign militants from their area.

Elsewhere, a little known al Qaeda Taliban Tanzeem on June 11 claimed killing 25 NATO soldiers in Afghanistan, reports The News. Talking to reporters by phone from an undisclosed location, Yousaf Raza Mujahid, 'chief' of the al Qaeda-Taliban Tanzeem, Mohmand and Bajaur chapter, said that his group had killed 25 NATO soldiers to avenge the killing of 11 militants in a prison in Afghanistan. They were killed in the border area in Afghanistan adjacent to Bajaur Agency. He warned Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to stop actions against the Taliban or else revenge attacks would launched against them.

Two successive US drone strikes killed at least 16 militants in North Waziristan Agency (NWA) of Federal Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on June 11 and June 12 (today), reports Dawn. The first attack took place late in the night when the US drone fired six missiles that hit a vehicle and a compound in Dargah Mandi village in NWA, around 10 kilometers (six miles) west of the main town of Miranshah. Six suspected militants were killed in the attack in the area considered a stronghold for the al Qaeda-linked Haqqani network. “Four of them were Uzbeks and two were Punjabi Taliban,” said an intelligence official in Miranshah. Officials said militants had parked their pick-up truck against the outer wall of the compound. “Both compound and truck were completely destroyed. Local informers told us that both are still on fire,” he added.

According to the latest official data available on June 23, the Government registered 35,381 families including 114,596 males, 137,301 females and 183,532 children. Consistent to the earlier instructions, Government assigned the task to the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) to make necessary rehabilitation arrangement of IDPs. However, this time the government decided to engage the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) too in the process which is in line with the mandate of the organisation. Upon instructions the NDMA now engaged with the Ministry of SAFRON, Federally Administrative Tribal Areas Disaster Management Authority, Provincial Disaster Management Authority of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan Army, Civil Administration and other partners to coordinate and implement the plan for efficient management of all IDPs’ issues.
