Multiple blasts damaged up-and-down country railway tracks in Sehrish Nagar area near Hussainabad in Sindh on November 1, reports Dawn. The bombs were fixed with a timer. The down-country track was broken due to severity of the blasts while the rail of up-country track was damaged. A two-page pamphlet issued by Sindhudesh Liberation Army (SLA) ‘chief commander’ Darya Khan was found on the spot. The pamphlet enlisted 19 points, mentioning issues of Sindh and targeting what it called Punjabi imperialism.

Zakarya Express though was scheduled to pass that track at 6.20 pm (PST) but was late and the blast took place at 7.20 pm (PST). The blast did not cause any casualty. This is the second consecutive day as two explosions were reported on November 1 near Kotri Railways Station.

Rail traffic remained suspended for three hours when a low intensity bomb went off on Karachi-Lahore up track near Nawabshah city of the Sindh on November 3, reported Daily Times. The second device tied with down track was detected by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and was defused immediately. This was the third bomb blast on railway track for the last three consecutive days. The Sindhudesh Liberation Army (SLA), through a press release issued to the newspapers and news agencies claimed the responsibility for the blasts.

The Anti Extremism Cell (AEC) of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) on November 3 arrested a top ranking Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militant from Mominabad area of Orangi Town in Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports Daily Times. Yousuf alias Qari was a TTP ‘commander’ in Swat District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and had fled to Karachi during the Swat operation. An illegal weapon was recovered from his possession during the raid. Yousuf confessed of attacking Special Force in Mingora, Swat in which at least 17 officials were martyred and also admitted involvement in various terrorist activities in Swat including destruction of important Government buildings, schools and several Police check posts.

The series of explosions began on November 1 when two blasts rocked railway tracks near Kotri Railway station, followed by another blast near Detha Railway Station on November 2 and yet another near Nawabshah on November 3.

Further, CID arrested a most wanted criminal affiliated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) from the Manghopir area in the north of Karachi. Iqbal alias Bajori, son of Shehzada Allakhail, was arrested in a raid in Manghopir and a TT pistol recovered from his possession. Bajori was a close aide of Faqeer Mohammad and was involved in several bombings and militancy against Security Forces in Bajaur Agency of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and had escaped from Bajaur Agency during the operation in tribal areas.

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested six most wanted Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) militants and recovered a huge cache of weapon on November 10, reported Daily Times. However, Dawn stated an arrest of over more than half a dozen militants. CID team received a tip off on the presence of at least 10 cadres of LeJ in Peerabad area of Karachi and arrested six of them in a raid near Rasheed graveyard. It was reported that the arrested militants were affiliated with Asif Ramzi faction of LeJ outfit that planned sectarian violence before Muharram (an important period of mourning in Shia Islam) by targeting nine important Shia community members. A cache of weapons including four Kalashnikovs with 1,000 bullets, 10 hand grenades, 25 kg explosive material, 10 metres detonation wire, 12 silencers, four TT pistols and some prohibited medicines were recovered from the possession of the arrested militants.

At least 20 persons, including Frontier Constabulary (FC) officials and Policemen, were killed and over 100 injured when an explosive-laden truck blew up inside the head office of the Crime Investigation Department (CID), which is located inside the main red zone of Karachi in Sindh, on the night of November 11, reported Daily Times. A truck loaded with explosives managed to penetrate the security checkpoints of the CID operation’s office after an intense exchange of fire. Later, they threw grenades inside the CID building, killing the security guards deployed at the main gate. According to bomb disposal squad (BDS) experts around 1,000 kilograms of explosive was used in the blast filling the entire area with smoke. Though the attack is suspected to be in reaction to the arrest of the militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) that the CID made on November 10, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) also claimed responsibility for the attack.

The CID Police arrested Qari Dawood Farooqi, Nafees Abbas, Ikram ul Haq, Muhammad Shahid, Muhammad Abdullah and Naushad from Peerabad in Sindh and Iqbal alias Bajauri from Manghopir area of Karachi in Sindh after encounters and stated that they were associated with Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Separately, the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) personnel arrested five militants belonging to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on November 11, reports The News. A Kalashnikov, four TT pistols and hundred of bullets were recovered from the possession of the arrested militants. The arrested militants were involved in various robberies and abduction for ransom cases. These militants used to send the ransom and looted amount to Waziristan as funding for their outfit.

Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik on November 21 ruled out the involvement of external hand in terrorism in the country, saying the locals were supporting terrorism, especially the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) in Karachi, reports Daily Times. “No external hand is involved in terrorism in Pakistan,” Malik told reporters at the Karachi Airport, adding that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), al Qaeda and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) were all coordinating with each other and were trying to destabilise Pakistan. He expressed satisfaction over the current law and order situation in Karachi, saying there was no need to call in the Army.

The arrested TTP militants were identified as Mohammad Umar aliasSohrab, Barkatullah alias Zanjeer, Amanullah alias Munno and Ahsanullah alias Taxiwala. The recovered arms and ammunition includes three suicide jackets of 12 kilograms explosive, two Kalashnikovs, 8mm rifle and one TT pistol. However, their accomplices managed to escape.
