Three Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, allegedly involved in the murder of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) functionary in March this year, were arrested from Chintanpalli village under Toynar Police Station limits in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on May 16, reports The Week. Police identified those arrested as Munna Mudma (32), a ‘militia’ (people’s army of the Maoists) ‘commander’, Raju Mudma (31), a member of the Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangthan (DAKMS -- a front of Maoists) and Lakhmu Mudma (39), a ‘militia’ member. All three hail from Chintanpalli. "The trio was allegedly involved in the murder of Tirupati Katla, a member of Janpad Panchayat in Bijapur, in Toynar village on March 1," an official said. Katla, a functionary of the ruling BJP, was attacked by Maoists with sharp-edged weapons when he had gone to attend a wedding in Toynar. The three arrested Maoists were also allegedly involved in the murder of a Sarpanch (head of the Panchayat, village level local self-Government institution) of Mormed village in Bijapur district in 2022, the official said. Three warrants were pending against Munna Mudma at the Toynar Police Station, the official added.

On May 19, the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) called for a bandh (general shut-down strike) in the south-west Bastar division and Darbha division in Chhattisgarh on May 26, reports ibc24.in. Samta, the 'spokesperson’ of the 'south sub-zonal bureau’ of the CPI-Maoist, said in a press note that the bandh on May 26 should be successful in the South Sub-Zonal Bureau against the massacres and massacres taking place in the name of fascist 'Operation Kagar' since January 2024. A call has been made to intensify the mass movement and people's war against false encounters, putting innocent people in jail, and false surrenders. Samta further said in the pamphlet that 62 of their people have been killed in the force action. The Modi government at the Centre, after Vishnudev Sai came to power in Chhattisgarh, is carrying out killings of tribals in the state at the hands of its puppet tribal Chief Minister as per its agenda. Ten innocent people have been killed in a fake encounter at Peediya in Bijapur district. Apart from this, while mentioning many other incidents, it has been said that innocent people have been killed in the name of encounters, and later they have been given rewards. In such a situation, an order has been issued to organise a bandh in protest against this.

Sharma, who also handles the home portfolio, was speaking to reporters at Jagdalpur, the headquarters of Bastar District. “All doors are open for talks with the Maoists [cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist)]. Our government has created an environment of equality and development by providing roads, health services, water, and other facilities in villages under the Niyad Nellanar scheme. We are asking them (Naxalites) for suggestions for a new rehabilitation policy so that they can join the mainstream and contribute their bit to the development of the state as well as the country,” he said. “The state government is ready to study the rehabilitation policy of any other state, but I have sought suggestions from Maoists themselves and not from officials, journalists, or the common people, as it is Naxalites who are going to be rehabilitated on surrender,” he added.
