Left-wing extremists—Naxalites—of the People's War group (PWG) blasted a cinema theatre in Kadapa and attacked a Mandal Parishad Territorial Council (MPTC) member and a sarpanch (village headman) in Nalgonda district, on March 1. Media reports said approximately 13 Naxalites entered the Krishna Cinema at Sandupalli in Kadapa and enquired about Gangi Reddy, a Telagu Desham Party (TDP) worker and owner of the theatre. When he was not found they blasted the theatre using landmines and other explosive material. Separately, Naxalites attacked a MPTC member and a sarpanch (headman) in Ramachandrapuram tanda of Mattampally mandal (administrative unit).

Left-wing extremists—Naxalites—of the People’s War Group (PWG) blasted the house of a local Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and set fire to a telephone exchange in Muthanakaluva village, under the KV Palli police station-limits, Chittoor district, on March 8-night. Media reports said approximately 40 Naxalites went to the house of TDP leader Gangi Reddy and called his family members out. The Naxalites reportedly beat up Reddy branding him as police informer. Subsequently, they planted explosives and blasted the house. Separately, the Naxalites went to the telephone exchange and asked the owner of a grocery shop, housed in the same building, to vacate and later set fire to the building. Police suspect that the Talakona dalam (squad) of the PWG might have been involved in the incident.

Speaking to media persons in Berhampur, on March 11, the Rayagada district police chief said security forces unearthed a gun-manufacturing unit of left-wing extremists—Naxalites—of the People’s War Group (PWG) at a place between Ramanaguda and Gunupur near Berhampur. The gun-manufacturing unit was unearthed during combing operation launched in Subudi, Kernalguda, Periba, Adiba, Haduguda and Parada villages in Ramanaguda and Gunupur blocks, district. During the search operation police recovered a drilling machine, wooden butts, empty cartridges and gunpowder, besides gun-making tools. However, no arrests have been made as the Naxalites had fled the camp.

According to media reports, four persons were killed and seven more injured on March 12-night in a bomb explosion in a building in Math Laxmanpur Koiri locality, in Patna, Bihar. Police have reportedly recovered two pencil batteries, wires, explosives, two detonators, a motorcycle, a scooter and several books on physics from the site. Available evidences suggested that the deceased persons were making bombs, to be set-off using a remote device, police said. It is also suspected that those killed could be associated with left-wing extremists––Naxalites––of either the Peoples War Group (PWG) or the Maoist Communist Center (MCC). Investigations are on into the incident.

There was some confusion over the identity of the dead CCM. Reports said he bears the alias Chandranna and could be either be Pullur Prasad Rao or Sande Rajamouli. Both carry a head money of INR.12 lakh. The correct identity of the CCM was not known, when reports last came in. In all, four Naxalites were killed in the exchange of fire. The other three are Sudarshan, Ravinder alias Madavi Rao and Bharat alias Pendra Bujji Rao. Also, five weapons and four kit bags were recovered from the encounter-site.
