Ganeshan, who was abducted by the ULFA from Gitibari in the Udalguri district on December 22, was kept in confinement in Bhutan, reports Telegraph. According to police sources, the junior engineer was released along the India-Bhutan border in the Baska district. However, the BRO sources claimed that he was freed in the Sandrup Jongkhar district of Bhutan. Ganeshan told the police that he was made to walk for three to four hours everyday and was blindfolded each time. Assam Tribune quoting intelligence source reports that the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), the external intelligence agency of Bangladesh, was extending physical help to the top ULFA leaders including ‘chairman’ Arabinda Rajkhowa and ‘commander-in-chief’ Paresh Baruah. The report added that two top leaders of the ULFA were provided with passports to facilitate their travel, and the DGFI provided security to them. "Till today there are intelligence reports about the ULFA planning to disrupt the Games. Till today they (ULFA) have not withdrawn their call to boycott the Games," he told The Hindu in Guwahati. He, however, added, “There is no need for worry. We are not relaxing our vigil. I appeal to all, even the ULFA, to extend cooperation for holding the National Games successfully."

Army sources said that two cadres of United Liberation Front of Asom’s (ULFA) "finance wing" were arrested and 60 "demand" notes and rubber stamps were recovered from them at Borpathar in the Tinsukia district on February 12. Times of India reports that three other ULFA cadres, who printed the demand notes and made the rubber stamps, were arrested, following the interrogation of two militants arrested earlier. The extortion racket was reportedly run by "28th Charlie battalion" of the ULFA headed by ‘corporal’ Tutu Sonowal.
