Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-1) personnel arrested five cadres belonging to Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT) when they brought out a procession in Uttara in Dhaka on January 20, reports The Daily Star. The arrested five cadres were identified as Minhaj Yiamim alias Zibran (35), Mohammad Mosaddeq, Mohammad Mosabbir (22), Ibrahim Khalil (18), and Fahim Afsar Bhuiyan (20). Lieutenant Colonel Rashidul Alam, commanding officer of RAB-1, said RAB personnel arrested the five when they brought out the procession on Road-8 in Uttara-6 after Friday prayers chanting various anti-Government and anti-State slogans.

The Police arrested an alleged leader of Hizb ut-Tahrir (HuT) from his residence in the city's Sabujbagh in Dhaka District on January 22, reports The Daily Star. The arrestee, identified as Mohamamd Anisuzzaman (39), hailed from Faridpur village under Titas sub-District in Comilla, is a former teacher of two colleges in the city. Acting on a tip-off, the Police arrested Anisuzzaman from his Kadamtola residence around 2:30pm and recovered the books, posters, leaflets and a computer from there, said Officer-in-Charge Kaiyum Ali Sarder of Sabujbagh Police Station.

The Police arrested three activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Kotwali of the Dhaka city on January 26, reports The Daily Star. The arrested are identified as Mahidul Islam, Saifullah Ibne Amin, and Asaduzzaman Shakil. The trio were arrested in connection with violence on Jagannath University (JnU) campus on January 24. The Police also detained nine other BCL activists who were later freed at the request of the JnU authorities. Sources said the Police picked up 12 BCL activists while raiding different students' messes, but some teachers of the university went to the Police station and pressured them to free the nine.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two leaders and a member of the banned Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), identified as Mohammad Asaduzzaman alias Hazari, ‘chief’ of JMB Khulna divisional unit and also a Majlish-e-Shura committee member, Mohammad Wahab, ‘head’ of JMB Savar zone and JMB member Anwar Hossain from different parts of Dhaka City on March 5, reports Daily Star. RAB also seized several JMB publications and leaflets from the possession of the arrestees. Asaduzzaman was arrested from Sayedabad, Wahab from Gabtoli while Anwar was arrested from Abdullahpur in Uttara area of the city. RAB officials claimed that the meeting was convened to plan “subversive activities” or “massive showdown” after the Eid vacation. RAB also recovered some books and leaflets of the banned organisation from the spot. Of the arrestees, four are teachers of school, college and private university; eight studies in different private medical and dental colleges, English medium schools and private universities; and 12 are university admission seekers. One youth among the arrestees is a stock market trader while nine works in different private firms and one is unemployed. Acting on a tip off, Detective Branch of Police arrested madrasa teacher Moulana Mohammad Yunus (48), at Fakirerpool in Dhaka. Police claimed that Yunus was one of the “top-most leaders of JeM's Bangladesh chapter”. His job was to recruit Rohingyas and locals of Cox's Bazar for his group and have them carry out JeM's activities in Bangladesh. Yunus had been carrying out his activity on the instruction of Saber Ahmmed, ex-principal of the madrasa, who has been living in Pakistan for the last few years. One of the arrestees Shaik Rahamat Ullah alias Masum, is a member of Majlish-e-Sura, the highest decision making body of the JMB. The other detainees are ehsar (full-time) members Shahinuzzaman Shahin alias Shafique, Amit Hossain alias Ajmeri and Shariful Islam Shohag alias Milton and gayeri ehsar (part-time) member Saidur Rahman. A senior intelligence official of the RAB said that JMB militants regrouped, targeting to kill Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Awami League (AL) leader Suranjit Sengupta and Foreign Minister Dipu Moni.A good number of books, leaflets, CDs and pen drives containing the party's organisational directives were seized from the possessions of five arrestees.

Witnesses said around 200 HuT cadres brought out a procession before the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) building (opposite to the Jatiya Press Club) on Topkhana Road around noon. When Police intercepted the procession, HuT cadres launched attack on the law enforcers, prompting them to fire at least five tear gas canisters and six rubber bullets.
