As per the official statement, based on specific input from reliable sources, troops of Loktak Battalion under the aegis of Inspector General of Assam Rifles-South (IGAR-S) along with Manipur Police launched an operation that led to the arrest. The three UNLF militants identified as Sanasam Shyamsal Meitei alias Nanao, RK Solomon alias Amon Singh and Waikhom Nganglentomba Meitei alias Gogo were arrested along with two Glock pistols with a magazine each loaded with 23 live rounds and 17 live rounds. The arrested militant identified as Thounaojam Rishi Luwangcha was apprehended along with a jar marked as ‘Mahaan Instant Dairy Creamer’ during a cordon and search operation. One detonator fitted on a Cordtex wire of approximately 1 feet in length, 58 Plastic Explosive Kirkee (PEK) sticks weighing around 7.358 kg, 3 coils of Cordtex wire with approximately 51 feet in length, 397 detonators in boxes and 2 batteries were found inside the jar. Upon further search of his house, some mechanical tools used in assembling the explosive substances including one soldering iron rod; one bolt cutter (wire plier); one ratchet wire stripper; one cutter blade; 18 small iron rods and one electric insulating tape were recovered. Rishi further disclosed that he was behind the series of bomb blasts in Imphal - one shop at Nagamapal on May 5; at one house located at Khurai Thoidingjam Leikai on May 6 and the recent blast at Little flower school gate on June 5. The explosive substances were handed over to him by his commander through one unknown person in the month of January, 2022 and was paid INR 30,000 for each bomb blast.

The NIA had announced a cash reward of INR 4 lakh for information on Shimray, who, according to the probe agency, was an active member of the MNPF and was directly involved in the ambush in which seven people were killed. “Commanding Officer of 46th Battalion of Assam Rifles Colonel Viplav Tripathi, his wife, minor son and four personnel of the force were killed in the ambush on his convoy by armed terrorists near Sialsih village in Churachandpur district of Manipur on November 13, 2021. A combined team of Thoubal Police Commando and 16 Assam Rifles arrested two militants of People’s Liberation Army (PLA), identified as Maibam Kanta Singh and Bhumeshor Thoudam, both hailing from Litan Makhong, Heirok Part-II of Thoubal District, along with explosives and other arms and ammunition from Litan Makhong, Heirok Part-II in Thoubal District of Manipur on December 20, reports The Sangai Express. The recoveries included one Glock 9mm pistol with a magazine, two 9mm pistols with magazine, 90 live rounds of 9 mm, nine Chinese-made hand grenades, eight detonators, one wired detonator, one remote control and a 9-volt battery, three wireless detonator receivers and three mobile phones were also recovered from the militants.

Imphal West Police commandos arrested two militants of People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in two separate operations from Khurai Thangjam Leikai and Khurai Ahongei Ayangpalli road in Imphal East District of Manipur on December 20, reports The Sangai Express. One of the arrested militants was identified as Lourembam Bhumeshor Meitei, son of (Late) Lourembam Ningthemjao Singh of Khurai Thangjam Leikai, in Porompat subdivision of Imphal East District. He was arrested from his residence in Khurai Thangjam Leikai, in Porompat subdivision of Imphal East District. The other arrested militant was identified as Kangabam Sanatomba Singh, son of (Late) Kangabam Ibocha Singh of Kongpal Laishram Leikai in Porompat subdivision of Imphal East District in Manipur. He was arrested from Khurai Ahongei Ayangpalli road in Imphal East District. Both the militants were working under the command of ‘Major’ Robertson alias Chourajit who hails from Khurai Puthiba Leikai, In Imphal East District of Manipur. The commandos team recovered three mobile handsets and one Aadhaar card from their possession.
