Suspected United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) terrorists attacked an oil storage depot and a gas pipeline in Assam’s Tinsukia district, on March 8. Reports said Indian Oil Corporation’s (IOC’s) a five million-litre petrol tank at Digboi refinery caught fire in the explosion triggered by the terrorists. The fire could not have been controlled when reports last came in. Also, damage of property could not be immediately assessed. Another blast, again triggered by the ULFA terrorists damaged an Oil India Limited pipeline carrying gas from its Duliajan unit to North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) power grid at Kathalguri. The pipeline was later repaired and gas supply was also restored. According to Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner (DC), B N Das rocket launchers might have been used in the attack. ULFA ‘commander-in-chief’ Paresh Baruah reportedly called up the local media in Guwahati to claim responsibility for the attack. No injuries were reported in the twin blasts.

A girl child was killed and three persons injured in separate incidents on March 24-night in Tripura's Dhalai district. Reports said an eight year old girl was killed when National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) terrorists opened fire on the house of a local political activist at Champaicherra village who had not followed NLFT 'guidelines' during the February 26-Assembly elections. Two more were injured in the attack. The fleeing terrorists also set ablaze five huts. In a separate incident, another group of NLFT terrorists attacked Hridaybasti village and set ablaze four more huts. A young girl was injured even as she was taking cover from firing by terrorists.

According to media reports, on June 10, five persons, including two unidentified Hmar terrorists, were killed and three others injured in the continuing inter-tribal conflict between the Dimasas and Hmars in Assam’s North Cachar Hills district. Suspected Hmar terrorists also clashed with the security forces near Mahur while the latter were proceeding towards a village of the Dimasa tribes on information that the Hmar terrorists were planning to avenge the arson by suspected Dimasa terrorists in two Hmar villages of Garden Basti and Saron in the same area. In continuing ethnic violence, one terrorist was killed and a police personnel injured while 50 Dimasa houses were set ablaze in the Cachar district of Assam on June 16, said official sources. Approximately 70 Hmar Peoples Convention (HPC-Democratic) terrorists reportedly attacked the Dipucherra Dimasa village, abandoned by the villagers recently, and set ablaze at least 50 houses, they said. A police team from Joypur police station later encountered the HPC-D terrorists when they were about to escape, killing one of them while one Sub-Inspector of Police sustained injuries. However, rest of the terrorists managed to escape into the nearby forests. Security forces cordoned off the area and have launched a combing operation to arrest the terrorists and also prevent them from crossing over to other areas. One person has been arrested thus far in connection with this incident.

A girl was killed and a school and 25 Dimasas (tribe) dwellings were set ablaze by suspected Hmar People’s Convention-Democracy (HPC-D) terrorists in Berelang village, Assam’s North Cachar Hills district, on July 4. Media reports said that besides Berelang, the terrorists also attacked another Dimasa village and set ablaze an unspecified number of dwellings. Jadikhe Naisho Hoshom, an apex Dimasa body has alleged that four villagers, including an 18-year girl are missing following the attack.
