Kanglaonline reports that two militant cadres were killed during an alleged gun fight between two factions of the United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) on February 2 late night around 11 pm at a place in between Leikot and Longkai villages, under Nungba Police Station, said a source. The gun fight occurred between SK Thadou faction and Robert faction of the UTLA. According to a source, the two killed have been identified as Thangminlun of SK Thadou faction and Lalgou of Robert faction.

Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khole-Kitovi (NSCN-KK) militants opened fire and killed one Khaplang faction of NSCN (NSCN-K) militant, and a civilian near the Clock Tower Junction in Dimapur town of Dimapur District on May 6, reports Nagaland Post. Kanglaonline reports that a National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) cadre was shot dead by suspected Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) cadres on May 18 at around 2pm along Thongjaorok River bank at Lusai Chiru Village, some eight kilometres away from Bishnupur Police Station. The Police also recovered two empty cases of a 9mm pistol. From the identity card found from the youth, the deceased was identified as one Paosingdai Gonmei (29). Additionally, a press communiqué issued by information Secretary of the ZUF, A Dangmei said that Pousingdai Gonmei, Kapur (area administrator) of Zeilad Region of Duithanjang Khoupum in Tameglong District was ‘awarded capital punishment’ at Ngariyan village, Churachanpur District. It said that the deceased was arrested in 2011 for leading the NSCN-IM cadres in the first gun battle at Khoupum in 2010. After stern warning, he was released as he was a Zeliangrong. The ZUF went on to say that he was also among the cadres involved in the ambush at Soubunglong (Leishok) village in 2011. It also alleged that the deceased was found collecting ‘tax’ in the Zeliangrong region.

The Sangai Express reports that the ‘commanding officer’ of Kuki National Front’s (KNF), Ebenezer Camp, HS Seipao Kipgen alias Shanty Kipgen’ was shot dead by some unidentified persons near the Sapormeina Forest Beat under Gamnom Sapormeina Police Station in Senapati District at around 10 pm on May 23. Though the exact motive and identity of the group which killed Shanty Kipgen is not known, it is suspected that one group which broke away from KNF, and is not a party to Suspension of Operation (SoO) is behind the killing, informed a source. According to KNF ‘publicity secretary’ LH Stephen, Shanty was returning to their camp after visiting his family.

The Sangai Express reports that three militants were reportedly killed and one injured in a five hours fierce gun-battle between the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) and the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) cadres near Bhalok village in Tamenglong District in the afternoon of November 12. Bombs were also reportedly used in the encounter. Police source said that the three deceased belonged to the ZUF and added that one cadre of the NSCN-IM was injured. Meanwhile, the NSCN-IM has also claimed that the three deceased hailed from the ZUF. According to NSCN-IM leaders, the ZUF cadres launched attacks on the NSCN-IM cadres from two sides near the hill-lock of Bhalok village. Explosives were also used in the attacks. Due to the explosions, an NSCN-IM cadre was injured, said the NSCN-IM source.Officially, it has been confirmed from the Police about the shootout in Tamenglong District but it has not been confirmed officially the claims made by the NSCN-IM.

Amahator village is located 15 km away from Kiphire (District) town. An eight-member group of the GNLA’s ‘Special Action Group’ led by ‘area commander’ Jimmy went to the house of the village Nokma (village headman) Rakan M Sangma and dragged out his son Lakson N Marak and a friend called Onil Marak of Rongjeng who had come to spend Christmas in the village. Both the victims were accused of being active members of the ATF. The Nokma’s son was executed in the village itself and his friend Onil was taken away by the GNLA cadres.
