An exchange of fire took place between the Security Forces (SFs) and Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres at a forested area of Hirmagunda village under Gangaloor Police Station limits in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on January 5, reports Outlook. A joint team of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), its elite unit CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) and the District Force was out on an anti-Naxal[Left Wing Extremism, LWE] operation in the area when a group of armed rebels opened fire, prompting the SFs to retaliate. While no casualties were reported in the gun-battle, the SFs recovered a single-barrel muzzle loading (SBML) gun, a couple of bows and arrows and a cache of materials of daily use from the spot.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) ‘commander’, identified as Hidma Muchaki, carrying a reward of INR 500,000 on his head was killed in an exchange of fire with Security Forces (SFs) in a forest between Chikpal and Marjum villages in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh on January 13, reports The Pioneer. The gunfight broke out when a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) was on an anti-Naxal[Left Wing Extremism, LWE] operation in the area.After the exchange of fire, the body of the slain Maoist was recovered along with a 9 mm pistol from the spot. A joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Police launched a combing operation in the said area. On seeing the SFs, Maoists opened fire resulting in a gun-battle in which the Maoist was killed. Ranu was a‘commander’ of the Maoists’ Farsegarh Action Squad and ‘Deputy Commander’ of Farsegarh LOS (Local Operating Squad). Pistol rounds, arrow bombs and daily use items were recovered from the spot.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre was killed in an exchange of fire between Security Forces (SFs) and Maoists in a forested area under Tarrem Police Station limits in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on January 19, reports NDTV. While the Maoist was shot dead by the SFs, a District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel was injured after he invertedly stepped on an Improvised explosive device (IED) planted by the rebels during the operation. “Multiple gunfights took place between SFs and Maoists in the forests under the said Police Station around 450 kilometers away from capital Raipur. The team included personnel from DRG, Special Task Force (STF), Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) personnel of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and District Force,” Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sundarraj P said adding that “following one of the encounters, the body of a Maoist was found from the spot while DRG assistant constable Jogeshwar Paikra suffered injuries in an IED blast.” The SFs also recovered a 12 bore gun, uniforms, IED, Maoist literature, etc. from the site. The identity of the slain Maoist is yet to be ascertained.

Two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, identified as Kawasi Masa (30) and Muchaki Budhra (30) were arrested following an exchange of fire with Security Forces (SFs) in a forest between Dhanikortha and Kormagondi villages in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on January 22, reports Outlook. When a patrolling team comprising District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel was cordoning off the forest it came under fire by the Maoists. After a brief exchange of fire, two cadres were arrested while others managed to escape taking advantage of the dense forest. A 5-kg tiffin bomb, five detonators, a Maoist uniform and other materials were recovered from the possession of the two arrested cadres.

A Maoist identified as Masa Muchaki, 31, a 'jan militia' commander was killed in the exchange of fire. He was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head. After the exchange of fire, the bodies of the two Maoists along with a 9 mm pistol, a country-made revolver and a five kilograms Improvised Explosive Device (IED) were recovered from the spot, the SP said. The villagers had been protesting the setting up of the Police camp for the last few days, allegedly under pressure from CPI-Maoist. The villagers have returned to their homes on May 16. Some people, including CPI-Maoist cadres of the Jagargonda Area Committee reached the Police camp and started firing on May 17. SFs retaliated and the exchange of fire continued. Police recovered three dead bodies, which are yet to be identified. It is yet to be ascertained whether the deceased were Naxals [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] or civilians. The District Reserve Guard (DRG) troopers were sent to the forest of Abujhmaad to carry out Operation Monsoon in the core area of Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists (LWEs)] before the monsoon rains start. During the Operation, after killing a Maoist in the encounter on Saturday (June 19) morning, the search operation was continued in the area by the soldiers, and in the afternoon again another encounter took place in the same area in which one more Maoist was killed. An Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) trooper was injured after Community Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres fired at him in Kohkameta village in Narayanpur District of Chhattisgarh on October 8, reports latestly.com. According to Inspector General (IG) Bastar, P Sundarraj, the incident took place at around 3pm when constable Sandeep Kumar, belonging to ITBP's 53rd battalion, was on duty at the mobile check post in front his unit's camp in Kohkameta village. "A small action team of ultras fired at the jawan, which led to an exchange of fire. The ultras, however, fled soon after from the spot. The constable sustained a bullet injury near his left shoulder and was treated at the district hospital. He is out of danger," IG, Sundarraj said.

Three women Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres were killed in an exchange of fire with Security Forces (SFs) in a forest between Adwal and Kunjeras villages under Katekalyan Police Station limits in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh on October 31, reports ommcomnews.com. The slain Maoists were identified as Raje Muchaki, Geeta Markam, and Jyoti alias Bhime Nuppo, who were active members of Katekalyan ‘area committee’ of Maoists, and were carrying a reward of INR 500,000 each on their heads. Dantewada Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Pallava, said, the skirmish took place in a forest under Geedam police station area around 4 PM in the afternoon when a team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) of the Police ran into a group of Naxals [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs], and after the rebels retreated, the body of Ramsu Korram, who was active as `section commander' of the Maoists' platoon no 16 and guard of Mallesh, a 'divisional committee member' (DVCM), was recovered. A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) ‘commander’ was killed in an encounter with Security Force (SF) personnel in the forest of Bahker under Chhotedongar Police Station limits in Narayanpur District of Chhattisgarh on November 15, reports Hindustan Times. The encounter started at around 11.30 am in the forest of Bahker under Chhotedongar Police Station limits when a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on an area domination operation. “The DRG team had some intelligence inputs about the presence of a small team of Maoists near Amdai Ghati iron ore mining area. The DRG team cordoned off the area and suddenly Maoists started firing,” said a senior police officer said. The other Maoists fled from the spot after and escaped into the forest. “The dead body was identified as Saket Nureti alias Bhaskar Nureti, commander of the outlawed Peoples’ Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA) company no. 6 of the Maoists. The company works in East Bastar division. Nureti was recently promoted as a commander from section in-charge,” an officer added. An AK 47 and some ammunition has also been seized from the spot.

Bheema, the slain Maoist, was carrying a reward of INR 500,000 on his head. The gunfight took place around 7 pm in a forest near Tadmetla village when a joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) of Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)'s elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA)'s 201 battalion was out on an anti-Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] operation, Sukma Superintendent of Police (SP), Sunil Sharma said. When the patrolling team was cordoning off the forest near Tadmetla, Maoists fired on them, SP, Sharma said, adding, after the guns fell silent, the body of Basta Bheema was recovered from the spot. Bheema was involved in several incidents including the Minpa attack in March 2020, where 17 security personnel were killed, and the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in November last year in Chintalnar area in which a CoBRA assistant commandant was killed and nine others sustained injuries, Sharma added.

The Security Forces (SFs) killed two women cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) in a gun battle in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh on December 18, reports The New Indian Express. Dantewada, Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Pallava, said, "On a tip-off a team of Dantewada district reserve guards (DRG) was out on search operation. When the forces arrived close to the forested terrain of Gonderas near Aranpur, the rebels opened fire resulting into an exchange of fire. The forces later recovered two female bodies of the banned outfit from the encounter site." The slain bodies were identified as Hidme Kohrame, Mallanger ‘area committee member, (ACM)’ of Darbha Division and Pojje, head of Chetna Natya Mandli (CNM), the outfit's cultural troupe, in Nilawaya of Mallanger area committee. Kohrame and Pojje carried the reward of INR 500,000 and INR 100,000 respectively on their heads. The SP said that the SFs also recovered three locally-made rifles, ammunition, explosives and items of daily use from the spot and the search operation in the region has been intensified.

According to Sunil Dutt Superintendent of Police (SP), Bhadradri Kothagudem District, the Maoists were killed in a joint operation of Telangana and Chhattisgarh Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) that took place under Kishtaram Police Station limits in Sukma District under South Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. It was a joint operation by Telangana and Chhattisgarh Police and CRPF, and the incident took place around 6.30 AM to 7 AM, the Police official said, adding, they received a tip off that Maoists were trying to attack the forces and combing was stepped up. Sukma, Superintendent of Police (SP), Sunil Sharma said, the gunfight took place in Palachalma forest under Kishtaram Police Station limits when a team of the 208th battalion of the CoBRA was out on an anti-Maoist operation, and when the patrolling team was cordoning off the forest, an exchange of fire took place. “Constable Virendra Singh, belonging to CoBRA's 208th battalion, suffered a bullet injury on his chest and was shifted to the CRPF's field hospital in Kishtaram. Preparations were being made to airlift him to Raipur for further treatment but he succumbed by then,” the SP said.
