Zee News reports that a woman cadre of Communist party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), allegedly involved in several criminal activities, surrendered on January 25 before the Police in Gajapati District. "The Maoist cadre Tabita Mallick of Gangamunda village in Adaba Police Station area of the District was active in Maoist activities since 2009," Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarthak Sarangi said. Tabita, who was inducted into Maoist outfit under the supervision of Azad, was subsequently shifted to Ghumsar division and working under Nikhil before surrender. She was involved in killing of a Panchayat Samiti (block level local self government institution) member of Srirampur in Kotagad block (administrative division) of Kandhamal during an exchange of fire with the Police in Gopinathpur and Kharimera, SP Sarangi said. Tabita, who was produced before media persons, said that she was neglected, exploited and was not given money for day to day requirement. She said she was not allowed to marry on her choice.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, serving as the bodyguard of top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda, surrendered before Police in Chhatarpur in Ganjam District on February 3, reports The Times of India. The Maoist, identified as Rajendra Kumar Ratia alias Suraj alias Sangram (23), from Kutuniganda village in Adaba Police Station area, was reportedly involved in several major Maoist offensives in Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada Districts in the last two years, including the firing incident at Kerubadi. Sources said Ratia was an active member of the Ghumusara division of the CPI-Maoist. He also imparted training to new cadres about the Maoist ideology and the party's social and political views. Ratia reportedly decided to leave the organization after seeing women cadres being exploited in the Maoist camps, mainly by leaders from Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. Ratia told Police that the rift between the Odia and Telugu cadres intensified in the camps after the entry of Manoj alias Bhaskar from Andhra Pradesh to Odisha. Toffan Sahu alias Akash alias Bangara (19), a close associate of the top associate of Sabyasachi Panda, the top leader of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) surrendered to Ganjam Superintendent of Police (SP) in Chhatrapur in Ganjam District on March 1, reports The Times of India. Toffan, hailing from Gangapur village under Baragada Police Station in Ganjam District, said he decided to surrender to SP Rajesh Pandit after witnessing exploitation of Odia cadres in the state Maoist organization, which is being dominated by Chhattisgarh cadres. "According to him, there is a conflict between Odia and non-Odia cadres over leadership in the organization," the SP said. Toffan has provided the names of several militia members of Ghumusara Division of the CPI-Maoist, the SP added. Toffan, joined the Maoist organization in 2009, was acting as a courier for the Maoists, supplying rations and tiffins for the preparation of tiffin bombs. He was also closely associated with Sudarshan Mandal alias Shankarshan, one of the Maoist leaders, who was arrested in June 24, 2011 by Ganjam Police. Sudarshan was known to be active in preparing landmines and operating rifles.

Pujari was one of the bodyguards of former Andhra Odisha Border Special Zone Committee (AOBSZC) ‘secretary’ Modem Balakrishna alias Bhaskar. Pujari was part of the Papuluru Dalam (squad) of the CPI-Maoist since past six years which is active in the cut-off area of Chitrakonda reservoir and orchestrated the Kalimela Police Station attack in 2001, killing of one Sub Inspector of Police in Chopdola in Andhra Pradesh and Tekguda encounter. Pujari hails from Doliput village of Ralegada panchayat (village level local self-Government institution) under Chitrakonda Police Station limits and had joined the Maoists more than a decade ago.

Susanta, a school dropout from Guluba village in the District, joined the Maoists in 2005, in his teens. Initially, he worked as a courier and later went on to become one of the most trusted members of the outfit, eventually getting the job of Panda's bodyguard. Ramesh, who had joined the organisation about 10 years ago and involved in operations in Odisha and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, said he decided to snap ties with Maoists after being ill-treated, humiliated and looked down upon by cadres from Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The arrestees have been identified as Sambari Munda (18) of Rebana village under Daitari Police limits, Rambati Hembram (20) of Asanbahali village under Ghasipura Police limits, Aiban Tiu (20) of Panga village under Telkoi Police limits and Dharani (22) of Tungurubahali village under Telkoi Police limits. Sukanti hailed from Mankadakhari village under Sorada Police Station limits in the District. She had joined the CPI-Maoist in 2009. She was part of the group led by Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda and was operational in areas of Ganjam and Kandhamal Districts. She was serving the Maoist group as an armed sentry and as a cook for the rebels. She was entitled to use an INSAS rifle while with the Maoists. She was also adept in making tiffin bombs. She had recently attended a Maoist training camp held near Srirampur in Kandhamal District. According to the Police she was posted as a sentry when security forces had cornered and attacked the Maoist group comprising Sabyasachi Panda near Kerubadi in February.

Two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, identified as Jadu Rai Soi alias Chamara (36) and Bijay Honhaga alias Rakesh (30) of Jharkhand, and close aides of senior Maoist leader Samarji, surrendered before the Rourkela Police in Odisha on December 4, reports The Times of India. They are allegedly involved in 11 Maoist cases, including murder. Jadu and Rakesh are active Maoist cadres since the last five years and are the President and Secretary of Kisan Kranti Committee (Revolutionary Forces of Farmers), the farmer wing of CPI-Maoist. Commenting on their arrest, Sundergarh Superintendent of Police (SP), Himansu Lal said "Both are armed cadres and were occupying high position in the organisation’, reports The Business Standard.
