Security forces on February 11 captured Taliban commander Mullah Mansoor Dadullah along with five other Taliban militants after a gun-battle in the Gowal Ismailzai village of Qila Saifullah district (near the Afghan border) in Balochistan, according to Dawn. He is the younger brother of Taliban commander Mullah Dadullah, who was killed in a clash with the US-led forces in Afghanistan’s Helmand province in May 2007. "Mansoor Dadullah is alive, but he is injured and in the custody of the authorities along with five other Taliban who too have received injuries," caretaker Interior Minister Lt-Gen (retd) Hamid Nawaz said. A senior military official told AP that Dadullah died of his wounds on the way to hospital, but army spokesman Major General Athar Abbas denied the claim, Daily Times reported. Lieutenant Colonel David Accetta, the top US military spokesman in Afghanistan, said he could not confirm the report. Mullah Mansoor succeeded his brother as commander, but was removed from the post, and subsequently from the Taliban movement itself, after some time following differences with Mullah Omar. He was later arrested by the Afghan government, but released in a swap when Taliban abducted 30 people, including an Italian journalist.

Daily Times reports that law enforcement agencies claimed late on September 15 to have detained three suspected terrorists and recovered 1,000 kilogrammes of explosives in a raid on a Baloch settlement in the outskirts of Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan. According to government sources, a joint raid was conducted in the New Kahan locality of Quetta, which is populated by the Marri Baloch tribesmen. During the raid, three suspected terrorists allegedly opened fire on the forces, which continued for an hour. The law enforcement agencies managed to overpower the three terrorists and took them into custody. The officials said they had also seized around 1,000 kg of explosives from a vehicle parked in the area. New Kahan is a settlement of the Marri tribesmen who had gone along with their tribal chief Nawab Khair Baksh Marri to Afghanistan in the 1980s. On their return from Afghanistan, they were provided shelter in New Kahan where they live amid scant civic amenities.

"Police have encircled the house of Hafiz Saeed and told him he cannot leave his home. They have told him that the detention order will be formally issued shortly," his spokesman Abdullah Montazir said. A Police official said detention orders had also been issued by the Punjab home department and raids were being conducted to arrest Yahya Mujahid, Abu Umer a number of other prominent members. Sources said that an office of the organisation on Chamberlain Road, in Gawalmandi, had been sealed a few days ago. Six members of the organisation were arrested from its main relief camp on the Karakoram Highway, near Ghazikot Township, on December 10. In Rawalpindi, Police sealed the group’s local office on Circular Road. In Peshawar, the NWFP capital, Police sealed the Jama’at-ud-Da’awa office in Fowara Chowk. However, Attiqur Rehman Chohan, the provincial spokesman for the Da’awa, told Dawn from an unspecified location that the organisation had decided to close its offices in Peshawar and other cities and suspend its activities for the time being. He said the group’s leaders were in touch with the provincial Government and major political parties and the issue would be raised in the national and provincial assemblies. Security forces (SFs) also raided an office of the Da’awa in Parhana area of Mansehra District and arrested five of its activists. SFs had sealed the relief camp-cum-office a day before Eidul Azha.
