Lasi told Dawn that Nawab Akbar Bugti’s men fired rockets at the Frontier Corps (FC) checkpoint near the Sui gas installations. "The situation has become serious after today’s landmine incident as miscreants may have laid mines in other areas also," he added. Dera Bugti District Co-ordination Officer, Abdul Samad Lasi, was quoted as saying in The News that seven suspects were arrested from Pir Koh and two others from the Loti area. During investigations, they confessed that they had laid four landmines near Pir Koh. "The FC personnel have recovered the landmines and defused them," Lasi said.

Most of the people of Kahan are reported to have left the town. According to official sources, armed men fired at least 48 rockets from mountains targeting the Frontier Corps fort in Kahan. Most of the rockets exploded close to the fort and a few of them in the residential areas of the town. There might have been causalities as some rockets had hit residential areas, officials said.

The first landmine explosion occurred in Killi Waziran, some 12 kilometres from the Kohlu city, claiming the lives of a woman, a man and a girl. Officials said some children were playing in front of the Government Dairy Farm when three children struck a landmine. After the blast, when a number of residents rushed towards the incident site bigger explosions occurred as some people stepped on other landmines hidden around the site. They said a convoy of the security forces was on its way from Karachi when it was attacked by armed men riding motorbikes. At least three people were killed and seven others sustained injuries in four landmine explosions in different areas of Balochistan province on May 7, according to Dawn. A vehicle carrying Kalpar tribesmen from Sui to Dera Bugti hit a landmine in Gandoi area killing two people, Nawabuddin Bugti and Gul Mohammad Bugti, and wounding three others. A man riding a camel was killed in another landmine explosion in the Arand area of Sibi district. Further, three police personnel were injured when their vehicle struck a landmine in the Chattar area of Nasirabad district. Separately, a bus carrying vegetables was blown up by another landmine in the same area.
