ameThe CounterTerrorism Department (CTD) of Police, on January 28, claimed to have arrested a wouldbe suicide bomber and another militant, associated with a banned outfit, who were allegedly involved in major terrorist acts in urban and rural Sindh and operating their networks in four major cities of the province besides Jafferabad District of Balochistan, reports Dawn. In a targeted raid conducted in the Manghopir area of Karachi, the CTD team detained the two suspects, Shaukat (wouldbe suicide bomber) and Abdul Ghani, and seized explosive material, a suicide jacket, a hand grenade and two pistols from their custody. “The held militants, who belonged to the Brohi tribe and were trained in Balochistan, were operating terror networks in Sukkur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad and Sanghar districts in Sindh and Jafferabad district in Balochistan,” said Sindh CTD chief Dr Sanaullah Abbasi.

Also, the Security Forces (SFs) arrested the alleged facilitator of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar suicide bomber from the outskirts of Khairpur town in the same District on February 19, reports The News. Sources said the alleged facilitator, during initial interrogation, has revealed that Hafeez Birohi group of Shikarpur is involved in Sehwan Sharif bombing. Hafeez Birohi group, who was previously affiliated to LashkareJhangvi (LeJ), has been associated with Islamic State (ISIS) now. The same group was also involved in Shikarpur bombings. The suicide bomber was Afghan national and the suicide vest was also prepared in Shikarpur, the investigation further revealed. Sources said the car used to target ISI headquarters in Sukkur was also prepared in Shikarpur.

Investigators probing the attack on the shrine of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar, on February 24 detained four people suspected of facilitating the attack during raids conducted in different parts of Sindh, including Shikarpur, reports The Express Tribune. Source said that the suspects were affiliated with Hafeez Brohi and Abdullah Brohi, who were part of a banned sectarian outfit and were involved in various terrorist activities, particularly facilitating terrorists and suicide bombers. “Hafeez and Abdullah Brohi are on the wanted list since they have been involved in terror activities including bombings in Shikarpur and Sukkur,” said Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) incharge Raja Omar Khattab.

One militant was killed and four others arrested during a raid by Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel in Korangi Town area of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, on March 5, reports Daily Times. According to CTD official, Raja Umar Khattab, the terrorist killed by forces was identified as Dildaar alias Chacha, who was reportedly an expert in making explosives. He said that the detainees had been planning a terrorist attack when their hideout was raided. A large amount of explosive material, detonators and weapons were recovered from the site.

Two Pakistan Rangers Sindh personnel were killed during a raid to arrest militants trained in Syria and Afghanistan and working for foreign intelligence agencies were arrested from Mawaach Goth area of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, reports The News. Briefing media on the raid, Rangers spokesperson Colonel Qaisar said that they raided a militant hideout in Mawaach Goth area on a tipoff that militants of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) have entered in the metropolis for subversive activities. ‘Eight KG explosives, one suicide vest, four ball bearing bombs and four SMGs were seized from the suspects,’ Colonel Qaiser explained, further adding that ‘two Rangers personnel were martyred during the raid.’ The LEAs also recovered 360-degree images of a site were from their possession, he said. Tahir Zaman aka Boxer Mota was trained in Afghanistan. IED expert Nawaz joined the AQIS group in 2012, he also provided medical services to another terrorist, Javed Swati. The third suspect, Bilal, was a close associate of main suspect Tahir who was involved in the Safoora attack.

Police on April 18 claimed to have arrested a target killer belonging to Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L) from Gulberg Town in Karachi, reports Daily Times. According to Gulberg Superintendent of Police (SP) Bashir Brohi, Jauharabad police arrested Umar Farooque alias Rashid Charya alias Rashid Kalla. Charya has been involved in at least 12 cases of target killing and terrorism. A pistol with five bullets has been recovered from him. "He joined Unit 131 of MQM in 1995. During the course of interrogation he has revealed multiple terrorist activities in Karachi," the SP said. He said further Charya attacked Baloch Goth in 1995-96 in which five people were killed, including his own accomplice Jameel.

According to Rangers spokesperson, Saeedul Hassan alias China and Syed Omar Aijaz alias Omar alias Maaz alias Musab, Saleem alias Chosni, Furqan alias Shooter, Abu Bakar, Ibrahim alias Hyderi, Sikandar and Asif Pathan were arrested in the operation. He is affiliated with banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and other terrorist groups of Punjab. He is a resident of Rajanpur (Punjab) and was also awarded death sentence in 2008 for murder. Since then he had been absconding." In another action, the CTD SP said a member of Balochistan Republican Army (BRA), Abid Shah, was arrested along with a pistol and explosive material from Jacobabad. As per details, Police along with other intelligence forces conducted a raid in Kaniz Fatima Society and arrested Dr Abdullah Hashmi (28), suspected head of newly-emerged outfit ASP, which is involved in sabotage activities and attack on Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan and law enforcement agencies personal in the Metropolis. Nadir had first met Mazari when he arrived to his village in Kashmore in 2009. The two then grew close and Nadir visited Mazari in the latter's village Abdullah, Rojhan Mazari in Punjab.
