An Ahmadi leader Muhammad Yousaf (70) was shot dead allegedly for seeking Police protection against sectarian zealots in Ferozewala Police Station area of Karachi on January 5, according to Daily Times. The family of Muhammad Yousaf, leader of the Ahmadi community in Ferozewala, alleged that unidentified persons killed him for demanding Police to stop them from creating religious strife in the area. Fatehul Deen, the son of the deceased, said that two unidentified persons on a motorbike opened fire at his father around 8 am (PST) when he was sitting at his general store, where he (Fateh) and his brother were also present. He said his father died instantly while he and his brother narrowly escaped the attack. Ferozewala Police Station House Officer (SHO) Muhammad Munir said that Police had registered the first information report (FIR) against unidentified persons for Yousaf’s murder.

Security Forces (SFs) shot dead two militants in an encounter in Faisalabad on February 19 who were involved in the General Headquarters (GHQ) attack in Rawalpindi on October 10, 2009, reports Daily Times. According to sources, SFs intercepted four militants in the Civil Lines area, out of which two were killed and the other two were arrested. A cache of arms was recovered from the possession of the militants which included eight hand-grenades, one Kalashnikov rifle and four pistols. The slain militants, identified as Umer Kundi and Adil Ali, were also wanted in connection with the attack on the Manawan Police Training Centre and the Rescue-15 building in Lahore on March 30, 2009.

Around 10.05 pm (PST), however, some armed men riding on motorcycles intercepted their vehicle near German Chowk — about 200 yards away from the Brigade police station — and opened fire at the two men, before fleeing the scene of crime. The Deputy Inspector-General (DIG)-South Iqbal Mehmood said that 48-year-old Hassan was one of the officers who had taken part in the Karachi operations during the decade of the 1990s. More than 240 officers who had taken part in the Karachi operation of the 1990s had been killed so far, but none of their killers could be arrested, DIG Mehmood added.
