The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) cadres shot dead one alleged ‘State Death Squad’ member, Mirza Walid Bakhtiar, at Cherry Gadgi in Balgutar area of Ketch District in Balochistan on January 28, reports The Balochistan Post. BLF ‘spokesman’ Major Gahram Baloch said in a statement that Mirza Walid Bakhtiar was the leader of a group of death squads. He was also active in Apsar including Balgutar, Gadgi, Kalilkor and Balida. The State Death Squad operative was involved in the persecution of Baloch slaves, kidnapping of Baloch children and other crimes.

A brother of two senior Police officers was shot dead in the Satellite town area of Turbat city in Kech District of Balochistan on February 8, reports Dawn. Police said Hafiz Abdul Karim was attacked in the Satellite town area when he was going home after attending a ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day’ function in Turbat. The attackers managed to escape. The victim died on the spot as he received multiple bullet wounds. The elder brothers of the deceased — Khalid Dashti and Hussain Dashti — are SHO Pasni and Sub-Inspector in the Special Branch, respectively. No one has claimed responsibility for the killing.

Three labourers of Punjabi ethnicity were shot dead and another was injured by unidentified assailants in Killi Khurasani area of Mangochar tehsil(revenue unit) in Kalat District of Balochistan on February 9, reports Dawn. All the victims belonged to the Sadiqabad tehsil of Rahim Yar Khan District in Punjab.The labourers were hired to dig for a tube well on the land of Pir Jan Mohammad Hasni.“Armed men opened fire on the four labourers in the early hours of Monday morning when they were sleeping in their camp in Killi Khurasani, resulting in the death of three of them,” senior Levies officer Risaldar Major Mohammad Akbar Mengal said, adding that one of the labourers was injured.

Saleemuddin, a spokesperson for the Jamaat Ahmadiyya, confirmed that the man who died in the attack was an Ahmadi. Qadir was shot dead in an “unprovoked attack”, he added. “This is 8th serious attack on Ahmadiya Community in Pakistan & 5th just in Peshawar in the recent months as a new wave of anti-Ahmadiyya campaign is underway,” Saleemuddin said on Twitter.

Two brothers were gunned down in a targeted attack in main bazaar on Mir Ali Tehsil Road in North Waziristan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa(KP)on February 13, reports The Express Tribune. Unidentified masked assailants opened fire at one person identified as Ziaudin, killing him on the spot and leaving two others injured.Locals said, “Ziaudin was going on his bike with his 10-year-old younger brother Muhammad when armed men who were in a vehicle opened firing at them from a very close range. One of the injured is a passerby from Bannu who was in the market as labourer and the second one is a brother of Ziaudin identified as Muhammad who was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital,” adding that the injured was also in critical condition. The assailants managed to escape after committing the crime.

An Awami National Party (ANP) local leader, Malik Abdul Ghani Khan, was killed and two others, including his son were injured when unidentified motorcyclists ambushed his car in Haji Lawang area of Bajaur District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) at about 5pm on June 21, reports Dawn. Malik Abdul Ghani Khan along with his son was going to his home in Mata Shah area of Salarzai tehsil (revenue unit) after attending a party meeting in Khar when unidentified motorcyclists ambushed his car. Malik Abdul Ghani was a member of the ANP’s provincial working committee. His son, identified as Shah Khalid (30), was president of ANP’s Salarzai tehsil chapter. Two persons, including one surrendered militant, shot dead by United Baloch Army (UBA) militants in Shehrak area of Turbat town in Kech District of Balochistan in the night of July 28, reports The Balochistan Post. According to reports, militants attacked a man named Shakir alias Shaheen son of Ghulam Sarwar in front of his house. Shakir was along with his accomplice Zahid, son of Dehkan Kahoor, at the time of the attack. Both the men died on the spot. Shakir was a former Baloch cadre who had surrendered to the Army on an unspecified date. UBA claimed the responsibility of the attack on July 29. Mureed Baloch, a ‘spokesman’ for the UBA, said in press release that UBA fighters targeted and killed the surrendered Shakir. According to Mureed Baloch, Shakir had been associated with Baloch armed groups for a long time. After that, Shakir was active in Army’s reared death squad and was seen with the Pakistani army in several operations to pursue the freedom fighters and looting, bullying, drug trafficking and social crimes. “He was directly involved in the evils and had set up a drug den in his area to destroy the Baloch youth,” Mureed Baloch added.

A Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) politician, identified as Rana Sakhawat Rajput, from Punjab was shot dead in Lalu Rain area of Qambar Shahdad Kot District in Sindh on November 27, reports The Balochistan Post. In the attack Rana Sakhawat’s nephew Zubair Rajput was also critically wounded. Rana Sakhawat Rajput was a candidate for Member of National Assembly (MNA) by ruling party PTI, in previous elections. Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army (SRA) claimed the responsibility for the attack, saying “the SRA attacked a Pakistani Intelligence Agent and Punjabi Settler Rana Sakhawat Rajput in Qambar Shahdad Kot”. SRA ‘spokesperson’ Sodho Sindhi said Rana Sakhawat Rajput was the main local facilitator to run the Pakistani intelligence network in the area. An official of the Sindh Bar Council was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Gulistan-i-Jauhar area of Karachi, the provincial capital of Sindh, on November 1, reports Dawn. Irfan Mehar was targeted by assailants when he was driving a car near Chappal Plaza in Block-13 of Gulistan-i-Jauhar. The attackers waylaid the vehicle driven by Mehar and sprayed him with bullets, causing his death on the spot. Advocate Naeem Qureshi, former secretary of the Karachi Bar Association, said that Mehar was returning home after dropping off his daughter at school when he was attacked. He said the deceased was not a lawyer and that he was an officeholder at the Sindh Bar Council.
