Eight Police recruits and a civilian were killed when a group of 10 terrorists attacked the Police Training Centre in Manawan near Lahore with guns and grenades on March 30, Daily Times reported. Security Forces regained control of the facility in an operation that lasted for more than eight hours. About 93 cadets and civilians were injured. One of the attackers was arrested, another was able to flee after being hit by a bullet and three blew themselves up to avoid arrest, Punjab Police Inspector General Khawaja Khalid Farooq said. He believed the other attackers might have fled unhurt in the densely populated neighbourhood. The attackers, some of who were dressed in Police uniforms, scaled the four feet high boundary wall of the Police academy at about 7:15am (PST) when hundreds of Police recruits were carrying out morning drills. They threw three or four grenades at the trainees and subsequently began to fire indiscriminately. There were about 1,000 Police personnel in the facility at the time of the attack. The gunmen reportedly took positions on the second and third floor of the three-storey residential barracks. Contingents of Pakistan Army and Rangers arrived at the incident site at about 9am. Around 100 troops stormed into the premises in armoured vehicles and four helicopters hovered overhead. Meanwhile, Police arrested a suspect, identified as Imran Hussain, with a pistol and two magazines from outside the premises. One of attackers identified as Hijratullah was arrested with a hand grenade, a dagger, a wireless phone and an Afghan passport. Investigators privy to the initial questioning said he was a resident of the Afghan province of Paktika and had been trained in Jalalabad. Security Forces also announced through the local mosque that a wounded terrorist had fled.

Suspected Hmar militants from Manipur attacked a Police outpost at Chekerchum under Dholai Police Station in Cachar District in the night of November 13 and injured five Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel and looted a huge quantity of arms and ammunition, reports Sentinel. The militants abducted five persons from the adjacent Khasia punji area. They also abducted a medical compounder for treatment of the injuries they sustained during the attack on the outpost. Five injured IRB personnel were identified as Kamrul Islam Barbhuiyan, Vijay Kumar Roy, Iqbal Ahmed Tapadhar, Prafulla Dey and Babul Hussain Barbhuiyan. They were shifted to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) at 8 am November 14 (today) by a Police team that rushed to the spot after receiving a wireless message from the injured personnel. An SMCH source said the condition of Kamrul Islam is critical. A bullet was removed from his head. The militants took away two 9 mm carbines, two 762 LMGs, one mortar, six .9mm-calibre magazines, 12 high explosive bombs, six smoke bombs, six hand grenades, 5,445 cartridges, 42 SLR magazines, 20 SLRs and one automatic pistol. The militants also damaged wireless sets and snatched away six mobile phone sets, money and uniform. A top-ranking Police official said local villagers might have joined the militants. He suspected that it was the handiwork of the Hmar People’s Democratic Convention (HPDC), a Hmar militant outfit active in Manipur, the adjacent border area to Cachar.

Two cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist)-backed Chasi Muliya Adivasi Sangh (CMAS) were killed when Police opened fire on them to prevent arms loot at the Narayanpatna Police Station of Koraput District in the afternoon of November 20, reports The Hindu. Inspector in charge of the Narayanpatna Police Station, Jagabandhu Sahu, also received a bullet while trying to save the fire arms from the activists of CMAS. One of the two CMAS cadres killed in the Police firing was identified as K. Singhana. The identity of the other was yet to be ascertained. Koraput District Collector Gadadhar Parida said the firing occurred around 2.45 pm (IST). Some 300 CMAS cadres had gheraoed the Police Station demanding removal of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel from the area. They were opposed to the combing operation of Security Force personnel against the Maoists. It was alleged that they also entered into a scuffle with the CRPF personnel posted near the Police Station. Some CMAS members broke open the lock of the main gate of the Police Station and rushed inside. They tried to snatch an AK47 and an SLR rifle held by the sentries of the Police Station and run away. During this tussle to snatch the firearm, one rifle went off and the bullet hit the inspector in charge of the Police Station in his leg. The sentries posted on the rooftop of the Police Station fired at the persons who were trying to escape snatching the firearms. As per initial reports more than 20 rounds were fired. Two of the CMAS activists died on the spot. Before this incident, insurgents had cut down trees to block the Bandhugaon-Narayanpatna road since morning.
