"The headless body was recovered near a river bridge at Gamaria Raja Bazaar and the victim's head was found after a search of the area during the day," Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) AK Sinha said. A former ‘commander’ of a local peace committee, Umar Gul, was killed allegedly by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants in Warki village of Tank District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the night of January 4, reports Dawn. The beheaded body of Umar Gul was found in a nearby canal after he was taken away from his house by three militants. “Three persons took him last night and then left a chit beside his body, warning people not to participate in his funeral,” Police quoted a brother of the deceased as saying. TTP have killed at least seven peace committee heads in the past two months.

The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres killed a villager, identified as Enkana Kadranga (35), at Tolopalesu village under Bandhugaon Police Station in Koraput District on January 7, reports The Times of India. Maoists suspected him to be a ‘Police informer’. According to sources a group of armed Maoists waylaid Kadranga, who along with three other villagers, was returning to Tolopalesu from Elgawalsa, within Bandhugaon Police limits, and killed Kadranga by slitting his throat with a sharp-edged weapon. The two companions of Kadranga were assaulted before being freeed. Sources said the Maoists belonged to the Jhanjabati Committee of the outfit.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on June 27 released a video showing severed heads of 17 Pakistani soldiers, who they claimed to have killed in a cross-border attack on a checkpost in Pakistan, reports Daily Times. The beheading, claimed by the TTP, took place on June 24 when TTP militants from Afghanistan infiltrated into the Upper Dir District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A senior security official in Peshawar confirmed that a total of 17 soldiers were targeted by the attackers who came from the eastern Afghan province of Kunar. “Six troops were killed on the first day, then another seven were slaughtered the next day,” the official said. “Four were missing and now they have also been beheaded,” he said.

Two bodies, including that of an imambargah leader, were recovered in Mian Gundi area, an outskirt of Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, on July 11, according to Daily Times. The bodies were identified as those of Satellite Town imambargah leader Mulana Nour Ali Nour and Syed Haseeb Abad Zaidi, a resident of Sirki Road Quetta. A slip was found from one of the body in which Lashker-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) claimed the responsibility of the killings. “They were slaughtered and beheaded in a brutal manner,” hospital sources said adding that their ages were around 28 to 30. The relatives of Haseeb told the media that he had been abducted from Satellite Town some 19 days earlier. They said the abductors had initially demanded a ransom amount of PKR 1.9 million, which they increased by another million upon receiving the PKR 1.5 million.

English Samaylive reports that a former Gram Panchayat (village level local self-Government institution) member was killed by suspected Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres in Padia area in Malkangiri District of Odisha, Police said on August 21. The body of Sukra Khurami (45), who had been missing since August 20 evening after he went to the village market, was found near Modiguda village on August 21, Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhileswar Singh said. The body of Sukra was lying in a pool of blood in the forest area on the outskirts of the village with his throat slit.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on August 31 released a video showing the severed heads of 12 soldiers, as security officials said 15 troops had gone missing following fighting with militants in Batwar area of Bajaur Agency in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), reports Daily Times. TTP spokesman Sirajuddin sent a video showing a militant ‘commander’ posing with 12 heads arranged on the ground, which he claimed were of the soldiers they had killed. "Many of them were killed by bullets, 12 of them as you see have been beheaded, you see 12 heads here, and more heads are on the way," he said.

Maoists killed a local trader, identified as Sattar Khan, by hacking him to death at Nangalbaoard in Sinapali area in Nuapada District late in the night of September 19, suspecting him to be a Police informer. According to the Police, a group of about 25 Maoists, including women, barged into the house of Sattar Khan and attacked him with sharp weapons and rifle bayonet. A note left by the Maoists stated that Sattar Khan was passing on information about Maoist activities to the Police. The Maoists then raised slogans against the Police and Security Forces and disappeared into the forest.

Around 50 Maoists lifted Pandu Madkami (50) of Parsanpalli under Padia Police Station when he was sleeping in his house and slit his throat at a nearby place, said Police. The body of Bhima Sisha was located near the village in the morning of November 20. The Maoists had slit open his throat with some sharp weapon. Later, they shot him from close range to confirm his death. According to the Police, through a handwritten letter left at the spot of murder the Maoists claimed that the deceased was a police informer, due to which he was given death sentence. Sisha was a peasant by profession who was also a small contractor involved in minor developmental works in the remote area.
