A heavily armed group of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres on January 1 killeda former intelligence unit ‘chief’ of the Maoists, identified as Shivaji Korsa at Kottapal village in Bijapur District, who had surrendered before Police in 2012, reports The Hindu. Korsa was working as a “Gopaniya Sainik” (Secret agent) for Chhattisgarh Police and was shot in his head from a close range by the Maoists. They also slit his throat. A Police Constable, identified as Shankar Joshi, was hacked to death by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres near a busy market place in Katekalyan town of Dantewada District on January 9, reports The Hindu. The incident took place when a Police platoon was returning from routine area domination exercise. “Maoists attacked the jawans who were last in the queue after crossing the market place. Constable Shankar Joshi was killed in the attack and the Maoists took away his SLR (Self Loading Rifle),” informed Dantewada District Superintendent of Police (SP) Kamlochan Kashyap. The attack was carried out by a small action team of the Maoists. “They (Maoists) were four to five persons, two of them were in Maoist uniform. The deceased Constable was the last one in the platoon formation which was returning to Katekalyan police camp,” added the SP.

Armed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres hacked a villager to death in Pallahara of Angul District on February 12 suspecting him to be a ‘police informer’, reports The New Indian Express. The villagers said a group of armed Maoists stormed into Pattamundai village and took away Samuel Bhadra after locking his family members in a room. They then hacked Bhadra to death and fled to nearby forest. The Maoists left behind eight posters which stated that Bhadra was eliminated as he was a police informer. They claimed that one of their leaders was killed by police on information provided by Bhadra. Angul Superintendent of Police Rajesh Pandit Uttam Rao confirmed that Bhadra was not a police informer.

Two brothers, identified as Kunja Brahmaiah and Kunja Seetaramaiah, native of Burakanakota village falling in limits of Chituru Police Station [East Godavari District] of Andhra Pradesh, were brutally hacked to death by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on May 4, reports The Pioneer. “Branding the duo as police informers, rebels brutally killed them in Jan Adalat held at Durma village under Konta police limits,” Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sukma, Santosh Singh informed on April 4. Preliminary investigation revealed that both were kidnapped on May 1 from their village which is near Chhattisgarh-Andhra Pradesh border. Prima-facie it seems that the victims may have subjected to severe torture before they were killed, the ASP added.

Communist party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres stabbed to death a local businessman during a weekly market in Tumnar village under Geedam Police Station limits in Dantewada District on August 1, reports The Pioneer. Superintendent of Police (SP) of Dantewada, Kamlochan Kashyap informed that Santosh Gupta hailing from Geedam was sitting in his temporary shop at the weekly market. Suddenly some Maoists clad in villagers’ attire reached his shop and stabbed him with some sharp edge weapon. The Maoists managed to walk away freely after killing the businessman. Santosh was then rushed to Maharani Hospital Jagdalpur, where he was declared brought dead.

On August 7, 2015, Niladri Chattopadhyay Niloy alias Niloy Neel (28), a secular blogger and a Gonojagoron Mancha (People's Resurgence Platform) activist was hacked to death at his Goran house in Khilgaon area of Dhaka city in broad daylight, reports The Daily Star. Later in the evening, a group identifying itself as Ansar Al Islam, Bangladesh chapter of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Sub-continent (AQIS), claimed the responsibility for the murder in an email sent out to almost all media outlets. In the email, the group said: “Alhamdulillah! Mujahidin of Ansar-Al-Islam (AQIS, Bangladesh Branch) carried out an operation to slaughter an enemy of Allah and His Messenger (peace & blessings be upon him), whose name is Niloy Chowdhury Neel.”

A lance corporal of Military Police (MP), identified as Samidul Islam was injured after being hacked with a machete by an unidentified assailant in the Kachukhet area near Dhaka Cantonment on November 10, reports Dhaka Tribune. In a press release, the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) said that Samidul was hacked from the back with a sharp weapon by a pedestrian. The ISPR also said that the victim suffered minor injuries and was undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. It said that on-duty military personnel detained a suspected attacker but his name was withheld “for the sake of investigation, which has already started.”
