Unidentified assailants shot dead a District leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Sardar Mohmand, in the Yakatoot area of Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on March 18, reports The News. “Sardar Mohmand was on foot when armed men opened fire on him with a 9-mm pistol and escaped,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations, Peshawar Dr Mian Saeed Ahmad said. A Darbha janpad panchayat (village level local self government institution) member, who was abducted by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) on April 21, was found dead in Bastar District on April 24, reports PTI. The body of Panduram (42) was found at Chingur Nullah in Tulsi Dongri area under Darbha Police Station limits, Darbha Station House Officer (SHO) Durgesh Sharma said. Panduram was abducted along with his assistant Sanat Sethiya on April 21 from his native place Koleng by a group of armed Maoist cadres, he said. However, Sethiya was later released on April 23, he said. Condemning the incident strongly, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh said that it was a "cowardly" act by Maoists. "Panduram used to work for the development of villages and people with great dedication. He was an active and hard working representative," Singh said in his condolence message.

At least three persons, including two Police officials, were killed on April 30 when former Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao’s convoy came under a suicide attack in the Umarzai town of Charsadda District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reports The Nation. The minister remained safe. According to officials and eyewitnesses, Sherpao was attacked as soon as he left the venue of a public meeting. When the suicide bomber tried coming close to Sherpao, Police officials shot him dead. However, the explosives attached to his body detonated killing two Police officials. Three people were also injured in the attack. This is the fourth attack on Sherpao in recent years.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hazara Circle Shaukat Shah was also killed in the incident. 23 others persons were also injured. Khanzada (71) had been holding a meeting with local people who had come to express their condolences on the death of his cousin. “There were two suicide bombers. One stood outside the boundary wall and the second one went inside and stood in front of the minister,” Mushtaq Sukhera, Provincial Police Chief said. “The blast by the bomber standing outside destroyed the wall which caused the roof to fall on the minister and the people gathered there,” he added. Khanzada used to visit his home every week to listen to the problems of the people of his constituency. Khanzada had been a member of the Punjab Assembly since 2002 and an active member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Meanwhile, a Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)-affiliated militant group, Lashkar-e-Islam, (LI) claimed responsibility for the attack and said it was retaliation for military operations against them in Khyber Agency. A former village sarpanch (head of village level local self-Government institution), identified as Somlu Tati, who was abducted by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), was found dead on September 15 in Bijapur District, reports Zee News. The body of the former sarpanch of Todka village panchayat was found lying in a pool of blood on a road near his native place Todka under Gangaloor Police Station limits, Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Indira Kalyan Elesela said. Tati was reportedly abducted by Maoists last week from his village, after he was suspected to be a ‘Police informer’.
