A Kerala court has sentenced 15 cadres of Popular Front of India (PFI) to death for the murder of a BJP leader, Sreenivasan, in December 2021, Hindustan Times reports on January 31. The 15, who belong to PFI and its political wing Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), were given the maximum penalty by judge Sreedevi VG of the Mavelikkara Additional District Sessions Court-1. Apart from the death sentence, the convicts have also been given life sentences and awarded fines for various offences. The Mavelikkara court on January 20 found the 15 guilty of various offences including murder, criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and trespassing, wrongful restraint, and criminal intimidation. A total of 156 witnesses testified during the trial and the prosecution produced over 1,000 documents and 100 material objects in court.
