As many as 35 Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, including three cadres with bounties on their heads, surrendered under the "Lon Varratu" (Return Home) campaign in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh on May 5, reports The Times of India. Dantewada Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaurav Rai confirmed that the surrendered Maoists have renounced violence and expressed their belief in democracy and the Constitution. These individuals were previously active in the Bhairamgarh, Malanger, and Katekalyan Area Committees, often involved in disruptive activities like road digging, tree cutting, and dissemination of Maoist propaganda during bandhs (general shut-down strikes). Of the 35 surrendered Maoists, 25 were facilitated by District Reserve Guards (DRG) Dantewada, six by the RFT Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and four by the 111th Battalion CRPF Dantewada.
