Police on October 22 (today) arrested Gunaraj Lohani, a central committee member of Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal (CPN-Maoists-Chand) from Chitwan District of Province No. 3, reports Republica.
Earlier, concluding that Police unnecessarily used force to kill Kumar Paudel, Sarlahi District in-charge of CPN-Maoists-Chand, after taking him under control, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on October 21 recommended that the Government should take action against officials involved in the killing, reports The Himalayan Times. “Based on the nature of the incident and collected evidences, the NHRC’s investigation found Paudel was killed after being taken under control. Police also erred while collecting information from the incident site and examining the body from medico-legal perspective,” read the NHRC press release. Paudel was killed in Lalbandi, Sarlahi District, in Police action on June 20. Police had fired nine shots at Paudel.
