On June 23, one extortionist was shot dead while another was arrested during a fight with the Nagaland Police at Old NST in Kohima of Kohima District in Nagaland, reports East Mojo. The two extortionists were identified as Khehuto I Assumi, an ex- lance havildar in 164 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) and Aito Awomi. In a press statement, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kevithutho Sophie stated that acting on the information about two persons extorting in the name of a National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K), Police cornered the extortionists. However, in a bid to escape, a scuffle started and Assumi was shot dead. While one .32 mm pistol, one magazine, one live round, one wallet with Rs 1610, identity card, ATM card, passports photos and one mobile were recovered from Assumi’s possession. Four rubber seals identified as those of, OC Police Station Zunheboto, Head GB Lizutomi, Capt/Maj/Lt/Col MO I/C MI room 164 Inf Bn TA (H&H) Naga and round seal of 164 Inf Bn TA (H&H) Naga MI room were also recovered from Assumi’s house.
Earlier on June 16, two persons were arrested for extorting money from a construction site near NBCC, New Secretariat area. On June 12, the Kohima Police also arrested two miscreants for extracting cash from Manipur bound trucks.
