Coimbatore Bazaar Police of Tamil Nadu registered a case against a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) supporter on September 7 under the Unlawful Assembly Prevention Act (UAPA) for an interview he gave to a YouTube channel last year, reports The New Indian Express. C Veermani (72), a resident of Rayanallur in Cuddalore District, and four others were arrested by Coimbatore Rural Q Branch-Crime Investigation Department (CID) on May 5, 2015. He was released from the Coimbatore Centre Prison in August 2020, after spending five years there, on condition bail. After his release, he was staying at Ukkadam. In an interview to the YouTube channel of a Tamil weekly magazine, Veeramani claimed that he was an active supporter of the Maoist movement.
