The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres killed two civilians identified as, Ashok Kunjam and Bandara Kunjam after branding them as ‘Police informers’ in Dudi Tumnar village in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on September 3, reports Outlook. The Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Pallava said, the incident took place when the two had gone to the said village for finalising marriage plan of Ashok. Three women and two girls, who were accompanying the deceased, were also assaulted by the rebels before being released. A pamphlet was recovered from the spot in which the Gangaloor area committee of the CPI-Maoist claimed that the two men were acting as ‘Police informers’ and they were killed after holding a ‘jan adalat’ (People's/ Kangaroo Court organised by the Maoists).
Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh Director General of Police (DGP), DM Awasthi on September 4 said anti-Naxal [Left Wing Extremist, LWE] operations will be intensified in the State in the next three months after the end of monsoon. While addressing a meeting of State Level Coordination Committee, attended by senior Paramilitary, Police and Intelligence Bureau (IB) officials, Awasthi stressed on the need for construction of bridges and culverts in interior areas at rapid pace for movement of Security Forces (SFs) during operations. “In core areas like Sukma, Dantewada and Bijapur of Bastar division, operations should be launched with complete planning. Along with Naxals, actions should also be taken against their supporters,” the DGP said.
