The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) sent a letter to Wayanad Press Club in Kerala ‘expressing regret’ over vandalising a resort in the District on January 15, 2020, reports The Hindu on February 7. The letter, written by the ‘spokesperson’ of the ‘Western Ghats Special Zone Committee’ (WGSZC) of the CPI-Maoist named Jogi, said the attack on the resort was the result of a misunderstanding and ‘expressed regret’ to the resort owners for the loss incurred. The letter further said that the attack was devised as per a report submitted to the ‘area committee’ by a member of the organisation, prepared after a village visit. The letter also urged the government to adopt actions against ‘exploitation of workers’ in the plantation sector, to fix the minimum wage at INR 800 a day, provide land and house to all landless people, and to rehabilitate the victims of landslips during the last monsoon. It also demanded the public to intensify their protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).
