A Policeman was killed and two passerby were injured in a hand grenade attack in Karkhano Market area of Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on July 30, reports Dawn. In a statement, Police initially said that an unidentified assailant had hurled a grenade at the Police mobile during an operation against Covid-19 SOP violations. However, Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Abbas Ahsan — who visited the site to inspect the damage — later clarified that the mobile was on a routine patrol when it was targeted. There were four Police personnel seated in the mobile at the time of the attack, he said. The deceased Police official was identified as Police team in-charge Ibn Amin.
Separately, the Police foiled a smuggling bid by arrested an Arms smuggler and recovered a cache of arms from a pick-up vehicle on the Peshawar Bypass under Jungle Khel Police Station in Kohat District on July 29, reports Dawn. The Police were checking vehicles coming from Darra Adam Khel whey they stopped a suspicious vehicle. During search, they found two Kalashnikovs, 72 pistols and 8,800 cartridges hidden in secret cavities of the vehicle. The arrested smuggler was identified as Maazullah, who belongs to Zarghun tribe of Darra Adam Khel. He was carrying the weapons to Dera Ismail Khan.
