On July 6, Taliban’s directorate for the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice summoned the family member of women’s beauty salon owners in Ghazni Province, reports Hasht-e Subh Daily. Salon owners were warned to halt their activities within the next two weeks. According to a written statement by the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, women’s beauty salons in Afghanistan will no longer be allowed to operate after July 23, 2023. Ministry further said, the cost of styling is extravagant and eyebrow shaping for adornment is in contradiction with Sharia law. The Taliban announced they would ban women’s beauty salons in Afghanistan on July 4.
On July 5, the United States (US) special envoy for Afghanistan, Rina Amiri on Twitter reacted to the Taliban’s announcement of ban on women's beauty salons, stating that The Taliban's ban on hairdressing salons removes another important place for women to work to provide for their families, reports Tolo News. The ban removes one of the few refugee women have outside the home and makes the country even more of a cruel and highly isolated place in the world."
