On July 6, a 62-year-old woman, identified as Hangzo Debora Donngaihching and belonging to the Kuki-Zo community, wasshot dead by unidentified miscreants outside Shishu Nishtha Niketan school in Imphal West District in Manipur, reports The Hindu.
On July 3, two civilians suspected to be Meiteis were killed by suspected Kuki militants in Gamphazol area of Kangpokpi District in Manipur, reports The Sanghai Express. Sources claimed that the Kuki militants took the two persons to Gamphazol area and killed them after gouging out their eyes. The corpses of the two persons were seen lying in the area till 2 pm of the next day (July 4).
On July 6, a statement from Manipur Police stated that a huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered in an operationcarried out involving a joint team comprising of Imphal East District Police, Assam Rifles and Border Security Force (BSF), reports Northeast Now. During the operation, the forces recovered five firearms, an equal number of HE hand grenades and 71 rounds of ammunition from the Leitanpokpi foothills in the Imphal East District.The statement indicated that these weapons were reportedly abandoned by the Kuki militants. Additionally, a misfired 51 mm mortar shell was recovered in a paddy field in Phayeng in Imphal West District.
