Two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres were killed in an exchange of fire with Police at Cherla Mandal (administrative sub-division) in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on September 7, reports The New Indian Express. The Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunil Dutt said, “an exchange of fire occurred between a group of armed underground extremists and District Police Special party. It lasted for about 20 minutes. On searching the area, Police found bodies of two male extremists.” Police also recovered firearms including, one short weapon (pistol), two haversacks. The identities of the slain Maoists are yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Maoists triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion on Tippapuram-Pedda Midisileru road in Bhadradri Kothagudem District of Telangana on September 6, reports The Hindustan Times. The Inspector of Police Boddu Ashok said, “there were no injuries to anybody and no casualties.” The Police recovered two separate letters written by the CPI-Maoist’s Charla-Shabari Area ‘committee secretary’, Aruna and Mahadevpur-Eturnagaram area ‘committee secretary’, Manthu from the spot where the explosion took place. In the letters, the Maoists called upon the people to condemn the killing of their colleague Dudi Devalu alias Shanker in an encounter with the Police in the District on September 3.
