On March 17, a cache of weapons was recovered from a forest in Udalguri District of Assam, reports The Northeast Today. An AK-56 Rifle with magazine wit 12 live rounds of ammunition, a rocket launcher with five live rockets, 40 pieces of 36-HE grenades and 111 detonators with wire were recovered.
Additionally, according to a notification on March 17, Assam Government extended the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) for another six months in the entire state with effect from February 28, reports The Northeast Today. According to the notification, during the past six months indicates the presence of extremist elements in certain parts of Assam. The notification also added that members of several extremist groups have surrendered but some other outfits may attempt to exploit the situation in the wake of the enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
