At least 20 people were injured after the clashed on the college campus. The Police arrested 12 ICS cadres, five for their alleged involvement with the arson and seven were picked up from different parts of the city for questioning.

Special court of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on July 14 sentenced 253 troopers of BGB Hospital Unit of 36 Battalion to different terms of rigorous imprisonment between four months and seven years in a mutiny case for their involvement in the February 2009 mutiny at Pilkhana Headquarters (HQ), reports Daily Star. A three member Special Court-10, led by Colonel Khandaker Obaidul Ahsan, also fined each of the convicts BTK 100 and acquitted two others, as charges levelled against them were not proved. Of the convicts, 34 jawans were sentenced to seven years, 15 to six years, 11 to five years, 10 to four years, 38 to three years, two to two years and six months, 111 to two years, and 26 to one years and six to four months.

The three-judge International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) gave a two-month bail to one Mohammad Mobarak, who has been in custody for almost nine months, reports bdnews24.com. Although, the case against Mohammad Mobarak was lodged by one Khodeja Begum, widow of Abdul Khaleque, on May 3, 2009, at Brahmanbaria, the investigators started investigating the case on July 15, 2012. The tribunal Chairman Justice Mohammad Nizamul Huq granted bail to Mobarak citing the delay. The court also noted that there were 645 cases that had been transferred to the tribunal from lower courts for investigation that remain pending with the investigation agency. The order also noted that according to the submissions of Prosecutor Zead-Al -Malum, there were four such persons out of the 645, who were in custody.

According to a report by the US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, two Bangladeshi banks, the Islami Bank Bangladesh (IBBL) and Social Islami Bank (SIBL), have alleged links with terrorist financing. Taking advantage of the weak internal governance of the US branch of HSBC, the two banks have allegedly been routing funds to different international networks suspected to have terrorist links. HSBC's Financial Intelligence Group provided information that the chief of a Bangladeshi Islamist terrorist outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) Shaikh Abdur Rahman maintained accounts with IBBL.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel in separate drives arrested 17 members of banned militant outfit Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT) from different parts of Dhaka on July 19 and 20, reports The Daily Star. A team of RAB -1 conducted a drive in Nikunja Boro Masjid of Khilkhet on July 20 and arrested nine members of the outfit. The arrestees were found to be holding anti-government rally and distributing leaflets containing anti-state statement among people of the area during the drive. In another raid at Gandaria, RAB -10 personnel arrested four operatives of the outlawed party while they were holding an anti-government rally. On July 19, a team of RAB -2 conducted a drive at New Market area and arrested Dr Md Manirul Haque (27). Following information extracted from Manirul, RAB officials raided Mohammadpur and Dhanmondi areas and captured three operatives of the outfit. The elite force recovered a large number of jihadi books, magazines, leaflets, a laptop and a personal computer from their possession.

For giving a final shape to the extradition treaty, the Foreign Ministry of the respective countries are now exchanging drafts for making a clean text of the treaty, after which the treaty is likely to be signed. The two countries recently signed an 'Agreement of Return on Sentenced Persons' under which a sentenced person of the neighbouring country can return to his/her own country and serve the remaining period of the sentence in the jail of that country.

Police arrested seven cadres of militant outfit Hizb-ut Tawhid (HT) and seized a huge number of jihadi books from their possession after they were given a mass beating at Nandangachhi Railway Station in Charghat sub-District of Rajshahi District on July 30, reports The Daily Star. The arrested are Abdul Zabbar, Yusuf Ali, Moaz-bin Kashim, Mohammad Tapan, Mosharraf Hossain, Shahabul Hossain and Golam Nabi. Police said the militants asked a newspaper hawker, Yusuf Hossain, to sell books of the militant outfit while he was travelling on Uttara Express train. As Yusuf refused to do so they beat him up. Following the happening, the people at the railway station became angry and beat the militants up. At least 30 people were injured in the clash between the banned Islamist organisation HT and villagers.

The arrestee is identified as Md. Shahidul Islam allias Kuni Shahid (56). RAB said, acting on a tip off, a RAB -12 team from Pabna camp raided Alhaj More of Bhelupara village as a few criminals were hiding there. During the drive, RAB arrested Shaid from the spot and recovered a revolver and three bullets from his possession. Officer in charge of Ataikula Police Station of the District Md.
