Investigator of the International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2), Additional Superintendent of Police Matiur Rahman, on November 1, 2012 said he had evidence that the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) worked as an auxiliary force of the Pakistani army during the Liberation War, reports The Daily Star. Matiur said this when a defence counsel asked him whether he knew about any gazette issued by the Pakistani army saying Al-Badr, Al-Shams, Peoples' Democratic Party, Nezam-e-Islami, Muslim League and JeI were its eastern command.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on November 1, 2012 arrested a regional leader of the outlawed outfit Biplobi Communist Party (BCP) along with a gun from Goalkhali village under Shailkupa sub-District of Jhenidah District, reports The New Age. The arrestee is identified as Korban Ali (41) son of Barek Sarkar of the village. RAB said Korban had a number of cases against him with the Shailkupa and other police stations.

A Dhaka court on November 4, summoned Major General (retd) Sadik Hasan Rumi, former Director General of Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), to appear before the court to narrate what he knows about the August 21 grenade attack cases, reports The Daily Star. Rumi, a key prosecution witness in the cases, was Director General of DGFI when the August 21 grenade attack was carried out on an Awami League (AL) rally in 2004 on Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka. Of the 52 accused in two cases of the August 21 grenade attack, former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar, Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed and 24 others were produced before the court on November 4. Seven other accused, including former Dhaka City Corporation ward councilor Ariful Islam Arif, now out on bail, were also present. BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman and 18 others accused are absconding.

JeI on November 4, announced nine-day countrywide fresh agitation programme from November 5 (today) protesting repression against the party leaders and workers and demanding release of its top leaders, who are now in detention facing the war crimes trial, reports The New Nation. JeI Assistant Secretary General Prof. Miah Gulam Parwar announced the programme at a press conference at the National Press Club in presence of other leaders. Claiming that the issue of war criminal trial is a settled issue and question has been raised at home and aboard against the trial process, he said, "If the government does not stop the trial against JeI leaders, we will be compelled to launch tougher programmes on the streets."

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) on November 4 indicted Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) leader Abul Kalam Azad with eight charges of crimes against humanity, including genocide, murders, rapes committed during the Liberation War, reports The Daily Star. The charges were based on eight incidents that left at least 12 unarmed people dead and two women raped in Faridpur during the nine-month-long war. This is the first time an international crimes tribunal in Bangladesh is holding a trial with the accused absent. Azad, 65, also a former leader of Islami Chhatra Sangha, the student wing of the JeI in 1971, went into hiding around seven hours before ICT-2 issued an arrest warrant against him on April 3.

Maj Gen (retd) Sadik Hasan Rumi, the then Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) director general, said before a Dhaka court on November 5, that Khaleda Zia as prime minister did not allow the DGFI to investigate the August 21 grenade assaults in 2004, reports The Daily Star. Although the then opposition leader Sheikh Hasina, now prime minister, narrowly escaped death and suffered ear injury in the grenade blasts, 24 other Awami League (AL) activists, including Ivy Rahman, wife of President Zillur Rahman, were killed and around 300 maimed.

The defence of war crimes accused Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee boycotted International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) as the prosecution began arguments in the case on November 5, reports The Daily Star. The defence alleged before the tribunal stating "plainclothes police abducted" their witness from the road near the High Court shrine. The defence demanded direction from the tribunal in this regard. The tribunal wanted to take a little break to enquire about the allegation, but the defence did not want to give any time for that. The defence boycotted the courtroom and did not return after lunch break.

Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) cadres clashed with Police in Dhaka, Capital city of Bangladesh and elsewhere in the country for a second consecutive day on November 6, reports The Daily Star. Besides Dhaka, clashes also took place in Rajshahi, Noakhali, Chittagong, Sylhet, Bogra, Pabna, Sirajganj, Thakurgaon, Natore, Narail, Chapainawabganj and Kushtia Districts. At least 86 Policemen, 85 JeI-ICS cadres and two journalists were injured in the attacks across the country. The clashes began as the Police tried to intercept the JeI-ICS processions demanding the immediate release of their leaders, including the nine arrested on War Crimes charges. Police arrested 207 JeI-ICS cadres for attacking the law enforcers and carrying out destructive activities. Earlier, on November 5, at least 260 people, 54 of them Policemen, were injured as JeI-ICS cadres fought pitched battles with law enforcers in Dhaka and 10 other Districts.

Police arrested 143 more leaders and cadres of Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) in drives overnight on November 6 in Dhaka and six other Districts for violence and attacks on Policemen, reports The Daily Star. Of them, 46 were arrested in Dhaka, 42 in Kushtia, 21 in Feni, 14 in Rajshahi, 11 in Chandpur, eight in Chittagong and one in Narayanganj District. The clashes broke out when the JeI-ICS cadres took to the streets as part of their nine-day programme demanding release of their nine top leaders, now being tried for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

Police arrested three militants of Islamist outfit Hizb-ut-Tawhid (HT) in Panchagarh town of Panchagarh District on November 6 and recovered leaflets, posters, CDs and books on jihad (holy war) from their possession, reports The Daily Star. The arrestees are Hozaifa Islam (14), Zahid Islam (20), and Sajid Hasan (17). Police arrested them while they were distributing books on jihad and CDs among the locals and pasting posters on walls in front of the local press club at Panchagarh town.

Industries Minister Dilip Barua, on November 25, urged the Election Commission (EC) to cancel the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) as a political party as it has failed to fulfill the EC-set conditions, reports UNB Connect. Barua, also the general secretary of Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal (BSD), requested the EC not to hold any dialogue with JeI. He said JeI which had played a negative role in the War of Liberation in 1971, is still engaged in misdeeds, even after 42 years of the country’s liberation. “If the JeI politics is banned, it’ll help flourish healthy politics with the Liberation War spirit.”

Police, on November 26, arrested seven cadres of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) with iron rods and sticks near Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in the Chitttagong city when they gathered for “creating anarchy”, reports The Daily Star. The arrestees are Abdullah-al-Mamun, Jasim Uddin Manik, Nurul Huda, Sajjad Hossain, Shariful Islam Shahed, Mijanur Rahman and Jainal Abedin. A.B. Siddiqui, President of Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, an associate body of AL, filed the case against Mujibur with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka. Rajshahi District court on November 28 sentenced seven cadres of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to 10 years rigorous imprisonment in an August 17, 2005 synchronised bomb attacks case. JMB carried out the attacks in some 500 places across the country, including Rajshahi city. Of the convicts, Toriqul Islam, Shafiullah Tarek, Abu Isa and Johurul Islam have been arrested while Korban Ali, Enamul Hoque and Amanullah are on the run. Four suspected outlaws of Purbo Banglar Communist Party – Janajuddha (PBCP-Janajuddha) were killed in a mob-lynch attack at Beelkaliani village in Faridpur sub-District of Pabna District on November 29, reports UNB Connect. One of the deceased was identified as Khalilur Rahman (32), a regional leader of the outfit. Police said some 12-13 militants, led by Khalilur went to a house of the village reportedly to extort money on November 28 night, but the inmates of the house requested them to come on November 29 morning as a plan to trap them. As the militants arrived again for the toll, local people of Beelkaliani village caught four of them and took them to a nearby field. The villagers then gave them a tremendous thrashing, leaving them dead on the spot. The rest of the extortionists managed to flee the scene. Police also recovered a locally-made weapon and two mobile phone sets from the spot.
