Various attacks on March 3, 4 and 5 have left thirteen policemen and seven rebels dead. In an attack on the Takshera village police station in Ropla district, Maoists killed nine policemen on April 5. While the bodies of five have been recovered, police presume that four missing from the station after the attack were also killed by the rebels.

The former Prime Minister is the convenor of the high-level committee formed by the government to give suggestions for the resolution of Maoist problem. A nationwide strike in Nepal called by Maoist rebels to protest against what it described as wide-scale police repression, paralysed services and normal life across the country. Escalation in violence was expected. Schools, factories and businesses remained closed across the country. Almost all major towns were deserted with no traffic on the roads. The Maoist rebels have described the April 6 strike as an armed shutdown. Recent clashes between rebels and police resulted in the death of more than 20 police officers and rebels. A senior leader of the rebels has demanded that detained Maoist activists be released. More than 1,200 people have been killed in Maoist-related violence.

The “Armed Nepal Bandh “called by the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) insurgents passed of peacefully with no major incidents reported. Life in Western Nepal and several other major cities was severely affected by the bandh on April 6. Only two major incidents of violence were reported in the district of Kalikot in Karnali where Maoists attacked a bank and a police office. The attacks were repulsed without any casualties. Police used aerial surveillance to monitor the movements of insurgents in their strongholds during the course of the strike.
