At least seven powerful bombs exploded in quick succession inside a house in the Chhoto Gurgola area of Dinajpur town on February 13, leaving three persons injured, media sources reported. The sources further said that the blasts occurred while illegal bombs were being manufactured. Police arrested an injured occupant of the house following the incident. Police also reportedly recovered four revolvers with 50 rounds of bullets, six petrol bombs, bomb-making chemicals and a 'subscription' receipt of an unnamed Islamist group during a subsequent search from the damaged house. In a follow up action, police further arrested two persons, believed to be Madarssa (seminary) employees and also seized two sets of mobile telephones from them.

A red alert was issued to police stations and outposts in 16 districts under the Rajshahi Police Range on February 15 following February 13 bomb blasts at Dinajpur. According to official sources, the detective police has been asked to keep close watch on all madrassas (seminary) and Islamic organisations in the region. Police has intensified search for the arrest of two of the injured persons who fled away after seven powerful bombs exploded in a tin-shed house at Chhoto Gurgola in the Dinajpur town. Police is also claiming to have gathered important information during interrogation of the two madrassa teachers arrested in connections with the blasts. Both of them have been sent on three days remand. The Za'amatul Mujahidin Bangladesh (ZMB), an Islamist extremist group, is suspected to be behind the bomb blasts. The organisation has been doing its "underground work" in the region for more than a year now, police sources added.

Police discovered the after verifying telephone numbers preserved in the memory of four mobile phones seized from the place of incident. Further details are waited and raids are being conducted in different areas. However, no further arrests have been made so far. Reportedly, eight cadres of the Jamaatul Mujahidin Bangladesh arrested in the year 2002, from Parbatipur subdivision, are possibly closely linked with the February 13-incident.

In a joint operation of Army, police and Ansars (paramilitary force), a terrorist camp of suspected Arakan terrorists was destroyed in the Bandarban forest area on August 26 and huge cache of arms and ammunition including anti-tank grenades, rocket launchers and assault rifles was recovered. A suspected terrorist was also killed and another arrested following the operation, while the rest managed to escape into the forests. The arms recovered included a M-79 rocket launcher, two M-56 grenade launchers, 39 anti-tank grenades, one M-16 assault rifle, a single-barrel gun, a pistol, 388 rounds of ammunition of AK-47, G-3 and M-16 rifles, two walkie-talkies, a radio, combat dresses and backpack. A huge quantity of medicines, a camera and food items were also found from the hideout. The operation was launched reportedly after the terrorists abducted three local youths. Group identity of the terrorists could not be established immediately, however, media reports have indicated that they could be from either Arakan Liberation Party, Arakan Army or National United Party of Arakan. Some local youths are also believed to have been recruited by them. Earlier, the group also allegedly abducted six persons in separate incidents in July and August 2003 for ransom. A search was still going on when reports last came in.
