Police seized two AK-56 rifles, a pistol, a grenade, an improvised explosive device and a huge amount of ammunition from the slain militants. Ram was abducted by the ULFA militants from Guwahati city on April 17 and was later reported dead on June 30. However, on July 1, the ULFA claimed that the FCI official was alive and he is under their captivity.

On receiving report of the ambush, a reinforcement of CRPF personnel in seven trucks rushed to the incident site. They were also waylaid and attacked by the armed militants again near a brick field at Pastor. One security convoy was damaged in the fist ambush. The five slain CRPF personnel were identified as H. Inspector general (Special Branch), S.B. Singh said that the encounter took place at around 4. 30 a.m. in the morning. After raiding the camp of HNLC, police asked them to surrender. However, no arrests were made. The Inspector-General of Police (eastern range), B.L. Buam, said that police surrounded the camps, about 25-km from the Bangladesh border, around 4.30am (IST). "The exchange of fire lasted for 40 minutes," said Buam, adding, the militants of both groups are engaged in extortion in the Jaintia Hills coal belt. He stated that the police received information about the camps while interrogating two HNLC militants who were arrested on December 16. The duo, identified as Pynhunlang Kharbani, the ‘area commander’ of HNLC in Jaintia Hills, and Robinson Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi, were arrested up from Chiehruphi village in the Jaintia Hills.

A joint team of the police and Central Reserve Police Force gunned down an ULFA militant at Bhetapara in the Basistha police station area of Guwahati. The Additional superintendent of police (city) Debojit Deori said the joint team was on a counter-insurgency operation in the area when ULFA militants fired on the party. “During retaliatory action, an Ulfa rebel identified as Chandan Baishya, 22, sustained bullet wounds and was taken to GMCH, where he was declared dead,” he said. One 9mm pistol was found on the slain militant.

Three United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) militants were killed by security forces in the Dibru Saikhowa National Park located across Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts on December 31, Telegraph reported. The army’s team from the 11 Guards Regiment stationed at Chabua in Dibrugarh district carried out the operation. A makeshift camp of the outfit was also destroyed. “We have recovered one 9mm pistol, two hand grenades, two IEDs, 400 rounds of ammunition, detonators, rations and other materials from the makeshift camp of the outfit,” said Col D.K. Singh, the commanding officer of the army unit. “Our forces approached the area by boat last evening. As they advanced towards a secluded hut which was the militants’ makeshift camp, they were fired upon from automatic weapons. Our forces fired back and in the ensuing gun battle, three ULFA cadres were killed while the others escaped. A hunt is on to track them down,” Col Singh added.
