The BSF seized a consignment of arms and heroin along the IB near the Chamliyal border outpost in Samba District on January 3, reports Daily Excelsior. The consignment was found packed in a white-coloured sack hidden in sarkanda (wild grass) near the Chamliyal border outpost. The officials said the seizure included three AK rifles along with five magazines, four pistols along with seven magazines, five packets of heroin and some assorted ammunition. The sack was noticed during patrolling, the officials said, adding that it had the markings of “Karachi Fertilizers Company Limited”.

Three Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants including a local militant killed in an encounter with the Security Forces (SFs) in Chandgam village of Pulwama District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on January 5, reports Greater Kashmir. "Acting on specific input regarding presence of terrorists in village Chandgam area of Pulwama, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, 55RR and 182Bn CRPF in the said area, " a Police spokesman said. "During the search operation, as the joint search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter, " he added. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 02 M-4 Carbine and 01 AK series rifle were recovered from the site of encounter. Among the killed militants, two have been identified as Mir Owais resident of Ashmander area of Pulwama District and a Pakistani national Talha Yasir. Regarding the third killed militant, although the recoveries made from the site of encounter indicate him to be a foreigner however his identification is being ascertained. As per Police, the slain trio was "part of group involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on security forces and civilian atrocities". "Several terror crime cases were registered against both the killed identified terrorists. Terrorist Owais was involved in killing of a civilian namely Azad Ahmad Dar of Kangan Pulwama. The killed Pakistani terrorist Talha was mastermind in preparation of Vehicle-borne IEDs besides, involved in attack on civilian at Wanpora area of Pulwama”, Police said.

Police on January 6 neutralised a “hybrid module” of The Resistance Front (TRF) outfit in Bagat Barzulla area of Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), by arresting two militants and two of their associates, reports Greater Kashmir. Among arrested terrorists, Suhail Qadir Khanday S/O Ghulam Qadir Khanday R/O Tral Pulwama, Suhail Mushtaq S/O Mushtaq Ahmed Waza R/O Niklora, are active terrorist, while their associates are identified as Basit Bilal Makaya S/O Bilal Ahmed Makaya R/O Qamar Abad Qamarwari and Naikoo Imad Nasar S/O Farooq Ahmed Bhat R/O Kiloora Shopian. Both the associates worked as Over Ground Workers (OGW). Two pistols along with two magazines and 30 pistol bullets were recovered on spot. On further questioning of terrorists Incriminating material, arms and ammunition including two pistols, six pistol magazines, 69 rounds two pistol silencers have been recovered from their hideout in Srinagar city. Addressing a press conference, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, central Kashmir, Sujit Kumar said they have “busted a module on credible human intelligence”. The members of this module are said to have carried out a recce of headquarters of National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Delhi Police Headquarters in New Delhi. During the press conference, DIG Sujit Kumar said: “On December 22, 2021 terrorists targeted and killed a property dealer in Safakadal area”.

Three militant associates of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were arrested by SFs at Chinar crossing Darpora in the jurisdiction of Bomai Police Station in Sopore tehsil of Baramulla District on January 15, reports Greater Kashmir. Police said during checking it was noticed that three persons coming from Gund Brath village towards Bomai village were roaming in suspicious conditions and were subsequently asked to stop, but they tried to flee from the spot, however, they were apprehended tactfully by the SFs. Police identified the arrested persons as Arafat Majeed Dar son of Abdul Majeed Dar resident of Harwan Sopore, Tauseef Ahmed Dar son of Late Gh Hassan Dar resident of Taliyan Mohalla, Arampora Sopore and Momin Nazir Khan son of Nazir Ahmed Khan resident of Arampora Sopore at present Natipora Srinagar. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including two Pistols, two Pistol Magazines, 13 Pistol rounds and a hand grenade were recovered from their possession. “Preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested terrorist associates were providing logistical and other materialistic support to the terrorists. Anantnag police received credible information that the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) is planning attacks on Police and Security Forces in Srigufwara area, an unnamed official said. “Multiple nakas and check-points were established at various locations. At one check point established at Sakhras crossing Srigufwara a bike having three persons on board was intercepted and they tried to flee but were apprehended by police”, he said. Acting on specific information about the presence of militants in the Aarath area in Budgam District, the JKP along with 2 RR (Rashtriya Rifles) arrested an active LeT militant identified as Yasir Mushtaq, and a militant associate identified as Irfan Bashir, both residents of Allahpora Budgam. Incriminating materials of proscribed terror outfit LeT, arms and ammunition including one Chinese grenade, one AK Magazine and 30 AK rounds were recovered from their possession. Investigation revealed that Yasir had joined terror folds recently and Irfan was providing the logistic support to him. In the second incident in Baramulla, JKP along with Army’s 32 RR, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 53 Bn and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) 2nd Bn arrested two militants identified as Muzamil Ahmad and Mohammad Yaseen, both residents of Chakloo Baramulla. As per Police records, the duo was missing since February 16. On their disclosure, two Chinese Pistols, two Magazines and 12 Pistol rounds were recovered. Investigation revealed that Muzamil and Yaseen were in close contact with handlers of LeT across the border and on their directions, they left their homes on February 16 to join the terror outfit. It was also revealed that they were tasked to carry out an attack on the Police or Security Force and soft targets in the coming days.

Based on a specific input of Police about the presence of militants in village Amshipora, Shopian, a joint operation was launched in the intervening night of February 24 and 25, and after a cluster of houses were taken into cordon, following the drill civilians were evacuated to safety. Thereafter, house to house searches were started in the wee hours to locate the hiding militants. During the searches, the militants came out and resorted to indiscriminate firing, in which one civilian namely Shakeel Ahmed Khan son of Abdul Rahim Khan resident of Amshipora got seriously injured and later succumbed to the injuries. However, the fire by the militants was retaliated effectively in which both militants were killed, who have been identified as Muzamil Ahmad Mir, resident of Chatripora, Shopian, and Shariq Ayoob, resident of Bonpora, Amshipora, Shopian. During investigation of a grenade attack case (FIR number 22/2022 of PS Zainapora), Shopian Police based on reliable sources picked up one suspect identified as Fazil-bin-Rashid, son of Abdul Rashid Alai of Melhura. During questioning, he disclosed that he was working with one active militant namely Basit Ahmed of [Lashkar-e-Toiba] LeT’s, The Resistance Front (TRF) of Frisal Kulgam and on his instructions, he threw a grenade on 19th of March 2022 at Babapora camp (D-Coy of CRPF 178 Bn), in which one CRPF Jawan namely Amit Kumar got injured. Police said that he further disclosed that he lobbed the grenade as a task given by the said militant in order to join militancy. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Vijay Kumar, said in Srinagar that this evening during a naka (Police check post) checking at Bemina Chowk, one Over Ground Worker (OGW) Zubair Sheikh of Elahi Bagh Soura was intercepted by Police party and on his search one hand grenade was recovered from his possession. IGP, Kumar said that the accused was arrested on the spot and a case (FIR no 15/2022 under Sections 7/25 of Indian Arms Act and section 13 of UAPA) was registered at Bemina Police Station and investigation was taken up. The accused was put to sustained examination and during questioning he revealed that he had received this grenade from another OGW Shamim Ahmed Chilloo son of Abdul Kareem Chilloo of Tankipora Shaheed Gunj. This accused confessed that he had received a consignment of four hand grenades and handed over one grenade each to Amir Rehman Dar of Tengpura Bypass, Shahid Ahmed Mir of Dangerpora Nowgam and one to Zubair Sheikh. A Police official said that based on a specific information regarding movement of three suspected individuals from Wadoora Bala to Sonarwain bridge, who were likely to carryout attack on SFs, a joint Naka was established at Sonarwain bridge near Wadoora Bala village. He said that during the checking at the naka, it was observed that three persons were moving towards naka in suspicious conditions. The naka party challenged them, however, they tried to flee from the spot, taking cover of darkness but, were nabbed by the SFs. “Upon their search, three pistols, three magazines, 22 rounds of pistols, one grenade and Rs 79,800 cash were recovered from their possession”, he added. The arrested militants were identified as Tufail Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Majeed Mir of Gund Mohalla, Barat Kalan; Owais Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Hassan Mir of Mir Mohalla, Barat Kalan and Shabir Ahmad Wagay son of Nazir Ahmad Wagay of Masjid Mohalla, Pethbug. During routine checking at Chenad crossing, a joint team of officials from the Police and the Army intercepted a truck with two persons on board. During search, 800 grams of heroin like substance was recovered from the said vehicle. Both the persons were identified as Nisar Ahmad Khan and Mohammad Rafiq Khan. “Police, along with security forces, busted an inter-district Narcro-terror module by arresting two terrorist associates in Baramulla and recovered heroin worth ₹1.5 crore, arms and ammunition from their possession,” said a Police spokesman. Two hybrid militants of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) were arrested by SFs near Wullar Vantage Aragam in Bandipora District on May 8, reports Daily Excelsior. Police said that based on a specific input regarding movement of hybrid militants from Bandipora to Srinagar, a joint naka was established near Wullar Vantage Aragam. While conducting search of pedestrians and vehicles, two individuals were observed moving suspiciously in an Alto car (JK13-G 6139), who tried to conceal their identity on seeing the Naka party. On being challenged, the suspicious persons tried to break the checkpoint and were apprehended. Those arrested included active Pakistani trained militants, two hybrid militants and four militant associates including a lady. Police said the arrests were made during the investigation of cases regarding the recent Bandipora encounters. Police identified the Pakistan trained militant as Arif Ajaz Shehri resident of Nadihal, who had gone to Pakistan on valid visa in 2018 through Wagah Border and infiltrated back after obtaining illegal arms training and started actively working with LeT in Bandipora. The two hybrid terrorists have been identified as Ajaz Ahmad Reshi, resident of Rampora and Shariq Ahmad Lone of Gundpora. The arrested terrorists were tasked to carry out attacks on Police and SFs and other soft targets particularly in Bandipora district, a Police spokesman said. Moreover, the four arrested militant associates including a female have been identified by Police as Riyaz Ahmad Mir of Bandipora, Ghulam Mohammad Waza of Tawheedabad Bagh, Maqsood Ahmad Malik’s son of Chittibandy Aragam and Sheema Shafi Waza of Tawheedabad Bagh. The arrested terrorist associates were involved in harboring terrorists, providing logistics/material support including transportation of terrorist in the Bandipora district. The arrested female terrorist associate was also involved in providing Wi-Fi hotspot, accommodation and ferrying terrorists in town Bandipora, a Police spokesman said, adding that incriminating materials, arms ammunition including two Pistols, three magazines, 25 pistol rounds, and three hand grenades were recovered from their possession. Besides, one Ecco Van which was being used in ferrying of terrorists from Bandipora to Nowgam, Pantha Chowk and Srinagar was also seized. Moreover, 3 Scooties were also seized which were being used for doing reccee of Police, security establishments, monitor movement of security forces and ferrying of terrorists in Bandipora areas. Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Baramulla, Rayees Bhat said that during investigation various evidences at the scene of crime were assessed and analysed and some critical leads came to the fore including the grenade lever. “CCTV footage from nearby cameras was also obtained which helped to reconstruct the sequence of events pre and post the incident, “he said. “On the basis of human and technical intelligence, few suspects were picked up and interrogated. During sustained interrogation, a major breakthrough was achieved by arresting four militants and their one associate of the Falcon Squad module of LeT (TRF),” he added. The arrested militants were identified as Shahid Showket Bala, son of Showket Ahmad Bala of Banglowbagh, Safeer Ahmad Mir, son of Gulam Nabi Mir of Mir Sahib old Town, Mohammad Maroof Soleh alias Adil, son of Nazir Ahmad Soleh of Kanilbagh, Faisal Shaban Gojiri, son of Mohammad Shaban Gojri of Chesti Colony, besides their associate Hatif Ahmad Sofi, son of Bilal Ahmad Sofi of Arampora Baramulla was also arrested. A Pakistani drone, carrying seven magnetic bombs and as many UBGL grenades, was shot down in Talli Hariya Chak area of Kathua District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on May 29 shortly after it crossed into the Indian side from across the International Border, reports Daily Excelsior. A Police search party picked up the movement of the drone at the border in Talli Hariya Chak area in the morning and fired at it, said Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Jammu, Mukesh Singh. He said the drone was brought down after being hit by the ground fire. The bomb disposal squad, called to inspect the drone’s payload, found seven magnetic bombs and an equal number of grenades compatible with Under Barrel Grenade Launchers (UBGL) attached to it, ADGP Mukesh Singh added.

Accordingly, he was brought before the court on production from Kot Bhalwal jail and subsequently police remand was taken. During his sustained questioning, the accused admitted his role in the Arnia weapon drop case and also disclosed two locations where the arms and ammunition dropped by drone had been buried or concealed, ADGP said. As a part of investigation, ADGP Mukesh Singh said, “A police team, along with a concerned magistrate in order to recover the weapons, went to the spots one after another.” “Though no recovery was made at the first place but at the second place namely Toph village (near International Border) in Phallian Mandal area, a packet of arms, ammunition and explosives was recovered,” he added. ADGP Mukesh Singh said, “When the packet was being opened, the accused attacked one of the police officials and snatched his service rifle. On October 30, Police arrested two suspects, Chander Bose of Doda and Shamsher Singh of Camp Gole Gujara, and recovered a consignment of arms and ammunition dropped through a drone along the International Border at Baspur Bangla in R. S. Pura sector of Jammu District, reports Daily Excelsior. The arrestees were in touch with Balvinder Singh of Jammu, now settled in Europe. Police said all of them were working for a banned militant outfit. Recoveries made from their possession include four pistols with eight magazines and 47 rounds. Police said: “Since Baspur Bangla (where drone dropping took place) is close to the fence, the information was shared with all Police Stations and a dedicated officer led team was put on job. The technical surveillance unit was also mobilised. All vehicles which had crossed police checking points around that time were scrutinized. CCTF footage of the place and the roads leading to the general area were thoroughly checked. Physical pattern and technical analysis was pursued thoroughly. This ultimately led to arrests and recoveries”. The consignment was dropped from across the border on the intervening night of October 27 and 28 at Baspur Bangla. This is fourth cache of drone consignment recovery by Jammu Police in 2022.

While the body of one of the militants was recovered by soldiers, bodies of the other two, lying across the LoC, were taken back by villagers of Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK). The JeM operatives had concealed consignment of weaponry in a specially erected cavity under driver’s seat in oil tanker No. JK02BF 2965 after picking it up and were taking it to a hideout of the militants in Srinagar District. The consignment had been dropped through drone from Pakistan at the behest of JeM ‘commander’ Shahbaaz, who is operating from across the border. The JeM operatives were given location of weaponry on WhatsApp. The recovered consignment included three AK-56 rifles, one pistol with nine magazines and 191 rounds and six grenades. Of the three Jaish operatives arrested by the Jammu Police, one of them has turned out to be a recycled Over Ground Worker (OGW), Mohammad Yaseen, who was on medical bail since September 2, 2022 till December 16, 2022. Yaseen was involved in FIR No. 24/2022 registered under Sections 18, 20, 23, 38 and 39 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and 4/5 Explosives Act at Pampore police station. One hand grenade was then recovered from his possession. However, despite being on medical bail, he pursued the militant activities. During interrogation, he revealed that he along with five other people from different parts of North Kashmir were running a (militant) funding racket under the garb of a NGO Islahi Falahi Relief Trust which claimed to provide monetary assistance to poor and needy families. Bilal said he was actively involved in coordinating the funding activities and aiding recruitment by organizing Ijtema meetings in different villages where he along with other members of the NGO would try and lure young people into anti-national activities. He revealed the names of other accomplices including Wahid Ahmed Bhatt, Javed Ahmed Najar, Mushtaq Ahmed Najar, Bashir Ahmed Mir and Zubair Ahmed Dar, who is Bilal’s cousin. They were all arrested. ”A huge quantity of arms, ammunition, raw material to prepare IED [Improvised Explosive Devices] and incriminating material has also been recovered from all the apprehended persons. The recoveries include five pistols, 10 magazines, 49 pistol rounds and two grenades besides one IED,” an unnamed Police spokesman said. He added that the module was being coordinated by Pakistan-based handlers to aid the operations of Tehreek-e-ul Mujhahideen Jammu and Kashmir (TuMJK) in North Kashmir. “The modus operandi of the group was to go to different villages and conduct events and gatherings under the garb of the NGO and would collect money by asking for charity and also scout for potential soft targets as recruits,” the police spokesman added. “The accounts in the NGO’s name were being used to launder money for the TuMJK. The group was also responsible for sticking anti-national posters around the 15th of August [2022] and during the visit of the Union Home Minister of India to Baramulla,” the spokesman said. “Bilal specifically also admitted to hoisting a Pakistani flag inside Markazi Jamia Masjid Kupwara on the 14th of August on the instructions of his Pakistani handlers,” the police spokesperson said, adding, “the group was also actively collecting explosive materials which is known to be used in IEDs [Improvised Explosive Devices].” “Bilal and his associates were receiving instructions from across the border from Dr Shah Sab alias Manzoor Shah alias Gen Abdullah actually named as Ghulam Rasool Shah of Hyhama Kupwara, who is a Pakistan based (militant) handler, Tariq Peer actually named Mohammad Sultan Peer of Sulkoot Kupwara also a Pakistan based (militant) handler alias Yousaf Baloch alias Osama alias Qureshi and one alias Hamza alias Mishtaq”, the spokesman added. “Wahid Ahmed Bhatt alias Tauheed was the mastermind behind the recruitment and (militant) funding module,” he said.

Giving details police said that two persons, identified as Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat, the main handler, of Chanapora, Srinagar and Ishfaq Ahmed Shah, resident of Budgam were arrested. Incriminating material, arms and ammunition including one pistol, one magazine, 10 rounds and three grenades was recovered from their possession. On further interrogation and development of the information, two more militant associates, identified as Abdul Majeed Kumar, resident of Bernate, Boniyar and Abdul Rashid Kumar, resident of Pattan were also arrested. On December 9, an encounter between Security Forces (SFs) and militants occurred at Watho village in Shopian tehsil (revenue division) of Shopian District in Jammu and Kashmir, reports Greater Kashmir. After the initial exchange of fire and search operation, the militants were found to have escaped.

On December 9, an encounter between Security Forces (SFs) and militants occurred at Watho village in Shopian tehsil (revenue division) of Shopian District in Jammu and Kashmir, reports Greater Kashmir. After the initial exchange of fire and search operation, the militants were found to have escaped. Two pistol rounds and three AK-47 rounds was recovered during the search.
