Information gathered from two arrested cadre as well as proof from the camp of the Odisha Maovadi Party (OMP) led by Sabyasachi Panda inside Merikote reserve forest near Salimagochha under Badagada Police Station limits in Ganjam District hints that the outfit now has less than 10 members, reports The Hindu. OMP is a breakaway faction of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist). According to Police sources, Sabyasachi is not able to lure any new members into the OMP. Therefore, he is trying to mobilise cadre from other parts of the State such as Keonjhar. As per the details given by Ganjam Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashis Kumar Singh on February 16 regarding the successful operation on February 15, both the arrested OMP cadre were from Harichandanpur Police Station area of Keonjhar District and in their early 20s. The arrested persons were Bhupati Mahanta (22) from Tangarapada village and Govinda Moharana (24) of Tambahara village. On February 15, Security Forces exchanged fire with OMP cadres in Merikote reserve forest during a combing operation. According to Police, some of the items seized from the camp show that Sabyasachi was also present during the joint operation of the District Voluntary Force (DVF) and the Special Operation Group (SOG) on Saturday [February 15],” said the SP. The Merikote reserve forest is located on the border of Ganjam, Kandhamal, and Gajapati Districts.
