An Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) and two constables were injured when an improvised explosive device (IED), planted inside a bag by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, blew off near Dabnahi, about 130 Kms away from the state capital, in Gariaband District of Chhattisgarh, reports The Times of India. "Additional SP R K Minj and two constables were injured when they tried to open a zippered canvas bag found near a road, blocked by the Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists] by felling trees early in the morning", a Police spokesman said. Later para-military Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) forces rushed and carried out a search in the area to found another bag bomb. CRPF's bomb disposal squad diffused the bomb.

The Maoists had placed a bomb beneath the body of another dead CRPF trooper which had exploded killing three civilians while the body was being recovered. So far the bodies of nine CRPF troopers, one Jharkhand Jaguar, and four civilian have been recovered from the encounter site with one dead body of a villager being found on January 10. CRPF too inflicted casualties on Maoists with eight deaths, including a woman. However, no bodies were found as the Maoists carried them back.

Two suspected cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) died in a blast while carrying explosives on a two-wheeler near Bhusuwa village at Ichak in Hazaribagh District on January 26, reports The Times of India. Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Ichak Police Station Rama Shankar Singh said, "The two were carrying about 300 pieces of explosives in a bag and sped away in a bid to escape the Police dragnet. Suddenly one of their cellphones started ringing and the explosives which they were carrying got ignited and exploded with loud noise….." The explosion was so severe that victim Vijay Yadav's leg was blown off while the body of other victim Sanjay Ram, who was sitting on the pillion, was badly mutilated, added the OIC.

The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres triggered a landmine blast killing eight persons - six Police personnel, one Special Police Officer (SPO) and one civilian - at Majhauliya village in Gaya District of Bihar on February 22, reports The Times of India. They were on patrolling duty during the ongoing process of selection of 'gram sevikas' when the blast took place near the Koili culvert between Roshanganj and Imamganj, 100km from Gaya district HQ, around 1pm. The Police jeep was completely destroyed in the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast and all the eight occupants died on the spot, Gaya Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vinay Kumar said.

Four persons were reportedly killed following a blast at Patana village in the proposed POSCO steel project area in Jagatsinghpur District on March 2, reports The Telegraph. The deceased persons, according to the Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti ‘spokesman’, Prasant Paikray, are Manas Jena (32), Nabanu Mandal (35), Narahari Sahu (38), and Laxman Pramanik (35). Jagatsinghpur Superintendent of Police Satyabrata Bhoi said: “We have received report of four casualties following the explosion. The blast occurred at the backyard of a house at Patana village. The police forces have rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. As per the preliminary investigation, the blast took place during the course of making of country-made bombs.” The POSCO Pratirodh Sangram Samiti, (PPSS), the outfit spearheading the resistance movement against the steel venture charged that members of a pro-Posco outfit lobbed bombs at their activists.

Separately, the Police team sent to recover the body of slain STF trooper, Manoj Bakhla, who was killed in the March 13 Gumla encounter, are yet to succeed, reports The Times of India. The Police along with Jharkhand Jaguar, CoBRA, CRPF and Jharkhand Armed Police had launched an operation against the Maoists in Sivil-Roret and Luru regions in Chainpur police station of Gumla District on March 13 and 14 and fighting continued intermittently for 24 hours. Police had intelligence input about the presence of over 250-300 Maoists who included top leaders like central committee member Arvindji, politburo member Kishan Da, Inderjeet and regional commander Sylvester. Srinivas and other officials conducted the Satbhavana Yatra at Rallagedda, a Maoist stronghold, which is about 16 km from Pedavalasa. Two pamphlets left by the Galikonda area committee and the Adivasi Rytu Coolie Sangham and Viplava Mahila Sangham at Bodidemullu temple, one km away from the coffee godown urged the people to boycott the “fake” Panchayat elections (expected to be conducted in a few months) and demanded the government to stop the Operation Green Hunt; attacks against the Girijans by the “hired” forces of the government; harassment of the Girijans after branding them as Maoist sympathisers; illegal arrests and fake encounters after raiding the villages at midnight. According to the Police, the blast occurred on National Highway (NH) 26 at a culvert between Sakirai and Kauguntha villages near Ralegada in Sunki ghat area under Pottangi Police Station limits around 9 a.m. The BSF personnel were on leave and on their way in three vehicles to Visakhapatnam from Balimela area of Malkangiri District to board trains. Each vehicle was carrying seven BSF personnel. A man, who escaped unhurt, said their vehicles were first fired at by Maoists hiding on a nearby hill. The BSF personnel fired back. However, their third vehicle was blasted while crossing the culvert. The vehicle was thrown off the road and was destroyed. Two of the injured were in a serious condition and they were being shifted to Visakhapatnam for treatment. Koraput Superintendent of Police Avinash Kumar rushed to the spot with extra force, who were also fired at by the Maoists. Kumar narrowly escaped a bullet. Security Force (SF) personnel have cordoned off the hill and rounded up some suspicious persons from the area, who are being interrogated at Pottangi Police Station. SFs seized a grenade and wire used to detonate the landmine from the hill. Some food stuff were also found at the spot, hinting that it was an ambush.

The village is on the borders of Muzaffarpur-Saran District. It is completely under Maoist influence for the last one decade. The Maoists used some low powerful dynamite or nitrate in the explosion. Senior SP Saurabh Kumar said three-room abandoned house of ex-mukhiya besides the adjacent building of primary health centre (PHC) were partially damaged in the explosion. The ceilings of all the houses are intact, the SSP said after visiting the blast site. A Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP-I) trooper was killed and another injured in a landmine explosion suspected to have been triggered by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres in the Gurabanda Police Station area on November 2, reports The Times of India. The two motorcycle-borne troopers were on patrolling duty in the forest cover of Fukrogora village under Ghatshila sub division when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded. "Prashant Rai died on the spot while Devan Pradhan sustained moderate injuries in the explosion," said rural police superintendent Devendra Thakur. A team of 12 JAP jawans were on patrolling duty in the morning hours when the landmine explosion was triggered by the Maoists, at a little distance from the main road.

The four did not receive shrapnel injuries and escaped with burns. The explosion is learnt to have taken place while the personnel from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) were trying to diffuse the landmine. The BDDS from Aheri was summoned to Halewada after local police from the outpost were informed about two mines at a distance of around 200 meters from each other. One of the mines was planted within 200 metres of the outpost. It was learnt that another mine was planed outside the village at a spot which police often use as their strategic location. A senior officer stated that BDDS had removed the mine planted outside the village. The incident took place when BDDS tried to defuse the mine planted within the village.

A group of Maoists cadres, including women, stormed into Padia, in the early hours and entered the block office building after breaking the lock, Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhileswar Singh said. The Maoists set the building on fire before triggering a powerful blast, causing extensive damage to the structure, he said, adding that no one was harmed in the attack. A poster found from the site stated that the attack was in protest against an encounter with Security Forces (SFs) in September this year (2013) in which around 13 Maoists had been killed, police said, adding that the poster also sought a halt to anti-Maoist operation and withdrawal of Border Security Force (BSF) from the region.
