One cadre of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) was killed in an encounter took place between the Police and Maoists in the Pachrukhia Hill area under Madanpur Block in Aurangabad District of Bihar on January 5, reports prabhatkhabar.com. Aurangabad Superintendent of Police (SP), Kantesh Kumar Mishra said that on January 5 evening, the Commando Battalion for resolute Action (CoBRA) personnel were conducting a search operation, and during this, on seeing them, the Maoists started firing, to which the soldiers also took the front and started retaliation. However, Police personnel are safe in the incident. Meanwhile, the Maoists also triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast, as has been confirmed by the SP himself. The identity of the slain Maoist is yet to be ascertained.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres blew up two mobile towers by planting explosives during the resistance day from January 21 to 26, before the Jharkhand and Bihar Bandh (general shut down strike) called on 27 January 2022, by the Maoists in protest against the arrest of ‘politburo member’ cum Eastern Regional Bureau ‘secretary’ Prashant Bose alias Kishan Da (77) and his wife Sheela Marandi alias Sheela Di, who were arrested on November 12, 2021, in Khukra and Madhuban under Pirtand Block (administrative unit) in Giridih District of Jharkhand on January 21, reports prabhatkhabar.com. The resistance day of CPI-Maoist organization has started from January 21, and the Maoists have given a call to make the resistance day a success by putting up posters at the spot. Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres on January 23 blew up an INR 130 million bridge on Barakar River in Giridih District of Jharkhand, reports The Indian Express. Giridih Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Anil Kumar Singh said the blast took place on the bridge, between Baragada and Lurango, under Dumri Police Station limits at around 2.30 am [IST] on January 23. The foundation for the bridge was laid in 2018 under the Mukhyamanti Gram Setu Yojana and it was inaugurated a month ago. The CPI-Maoist is observing a ‘resistance week’ in protest against the arrest of Prashant Bose alias Kishan Da, the ‘secretary’ of the CPI-Maoist’s ‘Eastern Regional Bureau’, who was in charge of insurgent activities in several States, including Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. A journalist was killed in a landmine explosion suspected to have been planted by cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) to target the Security Forces (SFs) near Karlakhunta Bridge in Mohangiri area under Madanpur Rampur Police Station limits in Kalahandi District of Odisha on February 5, reports Kalinga TV. The Improvised Explosive Device (IED) had been planted near a poster by the Maoist outfit’s ‘Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) division’. The deceased journalist identified as Rohit Kumar Biswal (43), a resident of Madanpur Town in Madanpur Rampur Block (administrative unit) in Kalahandi District, was working as a reporter for a Odia daily local newspaper ‘Dharitri’, and Biswal reportedly got inputs from some reliable sources that Maoists had allegedly pasted posters near Karlakhunta Bridge in Mohangiri area under Madanpur Rampur Police Station limits. In the posters, the Maoists had appealed to the villagers to boycott the Panchayat (village level local-self-Government institution) elections in the area. When Biswal went to the spot to collect the information and in the process, he started to click pictures of the Maoist posters, however, he was blown away by a high-intensity blast following which he died on the spot.

When a team of CRPF's 153rd battalion from Chinnakodepal camp was out on an area domination operation, and was cordoning off the forest along Murkinar road, located around 450 kilometres away from State capital Raipur, the Maoists detonated the IED in which four personnel sustained injuries.

A 20-year-old youth was killed in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast by triggered by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres at Kiamunda village under Phiringia Police Station limits in Kandhamal District on February 9, reports The New Indian Express. This is the second incident of Maoist violence in the State within a week in an attempt to threaten the locals to boycott the upcoming Panchayat (village level local-self-Government institution) polls in the State. Superintendent of Police (SP), Vinit Agrawal said, "A youth identified as Pranayaranjan Kanhar died after stepping on an improvised explosive device. The unfortunate incident occurred after 8 am." Posters and at least two banners threatening locals to boycott elections had surfaced near Kiamunda village on February 8, and the Maoists had also set ablaze two construction vehicles near the village.

Two troopers of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) Battalion were injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion triggered by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres during a combing operation in Bulbul Forest in Lohardaga District of Jharkhand on February 11, reports tv9hindi.com. An encounter took place between the squad of Ravindra Ganjhu, the ‘regional commander’ of CPI-Maoist, carrying reward of 1.5 million, and the SFs on February 10. During the combing operation, an IED kept hidden in the forest exploded as soon as the soldiers kept their feet, in which both the CoBRA troopers identified as Dilip Kumar (29) and Narayan Das (38) were injured. Later on, the Maoists fled after seeing the Security Forces (SFs) overwhelmed. During the search operation, a huge quantity of detonators, medicines, Naxalite [Left Wing Extremist, LWE] pamphlets, and other items have been found from the camp and later on the camp was also destroyed.

On the basis of reliable information about presence of a Maoist camp, a team of District Voluntary Force (DVF), Koraput along with personnel of 151 Battalion, Border Security Forces (BSF), Ramagiri Company Operating Base (COB), launched the combing operation in forest areas of Ambagandili, Maliguda and Garampani villages under Boipariguda Police limits, and during the operation, the SFs came across a Maoist explosive dump in the forest area of Garampani on August 1. They recovered nine .303 ball ammunitions, 48 AK-47 ball ammunitions, 108 number of .22-inch ammunitions, two charger clips, 1.5 kilograms of splinters and 95 gelatin sticks from the dump, said Koraput Superintendent of Police (SP), Varun Guntupali said.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast and started firing at Security Forces (SFs) in Narayanpur District of Chhattisgarh on December 11, reports The Print. However, no injury or casualty was reported in the incident, officials said, adding that the incident was reported in Orchha Police Station limits about 65 kilometers away from district headquarters when a joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) were out for area domination towards Gudari village when the IED blast occurred. Soon after the explosion, Maoists, who were hiding in the area started firing at the team. In response to the same, the SFs responded to the firing, forcing Maoists to flee. The DRG and CAF teams carried out searches and recovered material used for IED explosion including wires and pieces of the pressure cooker used in the blast in the area.
