Unconfirmed reports have, however, put the death toll at 30.Sources said the Naxalites set-off a land mine under a moving bus at Chintagudem village, near Eturunagaram. The blast-site is close to Ilapuram where the police killed five Naxals in an encounter the previous day, on November 17. Sources indicated that the Naxalites possibly wanted to avenge the killing of their colleagues and blew up the bus mistaking it to be transporting policemen who had participated in that encounter. However, the bus was carrying civilian passengers, 20 of who were killed on the spot. The passengers were returning to their respective villages after making purchases at a nearby weekly shandy in Kannayagudem. State Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu condemned the blast calling it a 'bastardly act’. He is expected to visit the incident-site, on November 19, today. In a similar major attack on civilians, the Naxalites had killed 46 passengers on board the Kakatiya Express in 1990 when they torched a compartment.
