He said that on the basis of intelligence inputs, Police conducted a series of raids in Srinagar and arrested at least 20 terrorists. Sharma also said that five police personnel were wounded during the encounter and added that assassinations of high profile personalities and several Fidayeen (suicide squad) attacks had been planned and executed by the network. The network had also established contacts at several Indian cities, including New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad. Official sources said a police party carried out a search operation at Malad after securing information that four terrorists of the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), including Zakir Hussain, an ‘area commander’, were present in the area. The four held family members of Dhani Ram as hostage and in the ensuing exchange of firing, Dhani Ram’s wife and daughter were killed while another woman sustained injuries. The four Hizb cadres surrendered when they exhausted their ammunition, according to Daily Excelsior.

During another search operation in the Snehi area of Surankote, police recovered three kilograms of RDX, two battery chargers, one pistol with one magazine and seven rounds of ammunition, one Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) with five grenades, two anti-tank grenades, two RPG shells and one wireless set. Separately, security forces recovered one AK rifle, three magazines, 95 rounds of ammunition, 20 kilograms of explosives and three detonators during a search operation at Sungli in the Doda district.
